Respiratory Distress Syndrome- NICU stay

My little boy was born at 34+1, weighing 5lb 3oz (2380g)

He is currently on day 5 of NICU… for respiratory distress syndrome.

He has come off the ventilator and is down to 21% of vapotherm.

I’m still terrified and I just want to know he will be ok / home one day. We are in a grade 3 NICU, so in great hands.

Any positive stories of a stay in NICU for respiratory distress syndrome? Xx

No experience of this OP but just wanted to send a hand-hold and best wishes to you and your little boy. Hope he is home with you soon. I am sure someone else will be along soon with something more useful to add x

My twins both had RDS. They were born at 30+2 weeks. They weighed 3lb1oz (1415g) and 3lb2oz (1435g) They are currently 10 weeks today (2 days corrected)

Twin 1 was just on vapotherm and off within I think it was 5/6 days. Discharged just before we got to 35weeks gestation(5 weeks old) she absolutely thrived!!

Twin 2 was ventilated for 6 days, High flow vapotherm for 3 days, oxygen for a total of 26 days on and off. He was on oxygen more than he was off it during his nicu stay. He was discharged two weeks ago at 38 weeks gestation (8 weeks old but still 0 corrected) He was a lot more poorly compared to his sister and had a lot more problems but he overcome so so much in the 8 weeks he was in nicu for!

NICU is the hardest journey I’ve ever been on, and considering all my other children were term babies it’s been a lot to see my two smallest so poorly. It gets easier as you start to see them do better tho so don’t give up. It is the most frustrating and heartbreaking thing, but at the same time, those little milestones are everything (lowering of oxygen/ vapotherm) stay strong mumma, these preemie babies are stronger than we think🤍
