Hey, my friend is currently in early labour at 21.5 weeks, waters have gone and she has backache. She’s in hospital and they are trying to get her to Saturday when she’ll be 22 weeks. We are all absolutely devastated and need positive premature stories at 22 weeks ! Has anyone been through this and have their baby at the end of this. I just can’t believe her beautiful little girl is so at risk and all she needs to do is stay inside!

They currently won’t give her anything she can’t have stitch and they’ve said she can have steroid and magnesium on Saturday. They won’t stop her contractions because of the risk of infection.

Positive stories anyone?

Oh god! This post made my stomach lurch - I’m 23+2 and feel so sorry for your friend.

All you can do is stay positive. I’ve heard of babies surviving from 21 weeks but obviously the chances go up the longer they stay in! If her waters have gone though then baby may be safer out than in.

💐 I’ll be thinking of your poor friend xx

Thank you. Yes every day is a blessing she's still here. My friend is on antibiotics so hopefully keep infection at bay. I've never cried so much, it's so sad. I cannot imagine the pain my friend is going through x

I'm so sorry. I don't know anyone that early, although my friend had twins at 27 weeks and they are perfect, healthy and hugeGrin now, almost 8 months on. The best thing I can say is that modern medicine and neonatal care has come on absolutely massively, and continues to do so year on year. She will be the the very best place to give her the very best chance at a positive outcome Flowers

@jojowash
I know your post was over a month ago but wanted to check how your friend is doing?

Jojowash · 22/01/2020 09:24

Baby is doing well, she’s being treated for infection at the moment and they can’t find source but overall she’s fantastic and very very tiny!

This exact same happened to me 2 weeks ago at 22 weeks plus 5 days :( i lost my beautiful baby girl but so glad ur friends baby is doing ok... can i ask had ur friend had any treatments done on her cervix as im questioning some treatments iv had done as the cause for premature labour 💔

goforit99 · 23/02/2020 15:54

@Hayleylou89
I know the question wasn't to me but at my 20 weeks scan I was told I had a short cervix and could go into preterm labor! I had my girl at 27+4 for unrelated reasons to the stitch but I was asked if I'd had any previous losses or any procedures done on my cervix which apparently do cause issues and preterm labor! I haven't had any procedures but it has been mentioned by a lot of women I have a spoken to. I had a cervical stitch placed in at 20 weeks and would recommend you speak with your Dr's as this could definitely be an option for you.
Truly sorry to hear about your loss.
There is a fantastic group called 'incomplete ant cervix UK on Facebook with a lot of mummies who have gone through similar stories to you.
Be kind to yourself my love xx
