Chronic Lung Disease in very pre-term babies

I had twins 12 weeks ago, at 26+1...

Both girls are still in the hospital and although they are putting weight on well they are still on vapotherm ventilation on fairly high levels of oxygen due to the immaturity of their lungs and the damage caused by the early mechanical ventilation.

They were diagnosed with CLD 4 weeks after birth, and will more than likely go home on oxygen.

We have no date for going home yet as their oxygen requirements are too high for care at home.

Has anyone else had a baby on long term oxygen in hospital? How many weeks before you were home?

Just saw you didn't have a reply and didn't want to read and run. Ds was born at 30 weeks, spent 8 weeks in NICU mostly on oxygen. In the end he didn't come home on it, just grew that extra bit and sorted himself out. Trying to predict what premature babies will do is very hard and I won't say try not to worry as of course you will but a week is a long time in NICU! Ask the staff caring for your babies, they will know how confusing and distressing it all is. All the best to you and your girls.
