when did you have baby and what reason? apprehensive.

Feel a bit bad asking for your experiences when I haven't a prem baby yet but I've been told it's a strong possibility so after others experiences.
Bit of backround, ds1 born 37 weeks, induced, pre eclampsia.
Currently pregnant with ds2, 30+1 and been quite poorly in hospital with hyperemisis, septecemia, DVT, lupus flares, swollen liver and spleen but baby seemed to cope fine.
Then at 28+1 lost my mucas plug, had a positive ffn swab and contractions so had steriods for baby and medication to stop contractions.
Then last week baby was diagnosed with iugr and dropping percentiles on growth chart so been told if he's not grown much by scan next week they will be taking him out as he will grow better outside the womb.
Im hoping it's just a blip but something's telling me it won't be.

I had my dd at 27 weeks, no real warning, just the Braxton hicks from the day before turned out not to be Braxton hicks. I had some steroids (1 out of 2 doses) and the anti labour meds but she was coming anyway. I still don't really know why she was early (my first child was late and a 9lb whopper), they think she got a secondary infection from a nasty dose of food poisoning I'd had ten days before. She was 2lb 4 but lost weight and was 1 15 at her teeniest, plus she really could have used that extra dose of steroids. It was six weeks before she could breathe entirely unaided. And her first two years were a roller coaster. But she starts school this summer, and I just kissed her good night, and she is my utter utter pride and joy. These teeny babies are ridiculously strong and stubborn and feisty. Good luck OP X

I had my dd at 34 weeks. Spontaneous labour after a complex pregnancy with threatened miscarriages and bleeding throughout.

She was growing at a slow rate, and had only a small pool of fluid at her head.

Once she was born it was evident that my placenta had been failing the whole way through my pregnancy.

She is now a happy and healthy nearly 4 year old. Good luck Op

Sorry x posted muskateer, that sounds scary, did you have scans before? They said my placenta is reasonable but I think there must be some reason he's not growing properly.
I'm glad both have healthy DD :)

I had DS at 31 weeks because of severe PE and HELLP syndrome. He was fine (for a 31 weeker), I was a bit of a state for a good while but we all came through it in one piece. It's hard but its often best for baby to be out. You've got to over 30 weeks, that's a good gestation so stay positive. Good luck

I had DS at 34 weeks. No early indications - it was a surprise when my waters broke and contractions started. Still no idea why it happened. Ended in a cord prolapse and emergency c section under GA. He's 2 now and doing great, although I have to confess it has put me off having any more.

Gosh must have been quite a shock for you both, were your babies in for long?

I had DS at 29 weeks due to severe PE & hellp. He weighted 1lb 9 oz & had IUGR due to this.

NICU was a very rocky ride; he was in for 95 days & we thought we would lose him so many times. He eventually came home on oxygen & also had severe reflux. Lots of issues with growth, food & eating, but he eventually got there.

He's upstairs now, playing Star Wars in his bed after his judo class.

DD was also premature, but at 35+6 it was a walk in the park by comparison. I didn't get PE but had a crappy placenta & resulting lack of fluid round her. Only 8 days in scbu thank you.

Hope your baby can stay put for a little bit longer; every day inside counts at this stage.

Ds1 26 weeks I was in a car crash and they had to deliver immediately.
Ds2 24 weeks many complex medical reasons both new and to do with complications following ds1 s birth I haemorrhaged and they delivered to save us both. I'd been in hospital for weeks and ds2 had steroids, a mag drip etc in utero so he was actually in better shape than ds1 when he was born.
They are now happy healthy boys ds2 is small but other wise you'd never guess how tiny they were.
I have my fingers crossed your babe stays put a while longer.

Had DD at 28+1 due to severe PE and IUGR as a result of poorly implanted placenta. PE started around 20 weeks. DD (Alice) was 1lb 4oz when she was born.

DS was in 16 days, mainly due to jaundice. He has the usual issues with feeding and regulating his temperature but they were resolved quickly. He also developed neutropenia, which was worrying, but fortunately grew out of it by about 9 months.

DS was in for 5 weeks. He was pretty uncomplicated apparently but it didn't feel like it at the time. He was 3lb6, dropped to 3lb2 but then only ever put weight on after that.

Im sorry your having such a hard time, I had a very complicated pregnancy with completely unpregnancy related issues, I had surgery that didn't work so my health was deteriorating and at 29 weeks my surgeons where not confortable operating so I was sent to my obstetrician to ask how early they'd be willing to deliver my son they said 34 weeks which I was not expecting, but at 33+2 I was having breathing problems and I had an infection (nobody knows where still to this day) so at 33+5 my son was delivered by csection under a ga. Ds was born with sepsis but recovered brilliantly and was home in under 3 weeks it was scary but I found mn and the advice I got here invaluable. He was a good weight at 5lb 7 but was on a vent and had a brain bleed problems I saw much smaller babys of a similar gestation escape. Good luck

Sorry for not responding OP, DD was in hospital for about 70 days I think, she went home around 37 weeks gestation, but there's a huge difference between a 27 and 30 weeker, every day of growth counts, so the stay for a 30 weeker should be much less.

I had ds at 30+0 very little warning off a normal pregnancy, nothing was stopping him! They are so tough these babies, we spent 8 weeks ish in Scbu and Nicu and whilst it was steps forwards and back he's perfect (reflux aside) and just turned one. fingers crossed for a few more days inside yiu for your lo x

I had dd2 at 30+3 due to severe preeclampsia she was 2lb 12oz and needed no help with her breathing whatsoever. Except for a few puffs of air after delivery in theatre (came out crying) she was only in scbu for 4 weeks and I'm happy to say she had no problems or complications just needed to grow, she came home weighing 3lb 11oz! She did considerably better than me! I had to stay in for 2 weeks after delivery to try and control my bp and was on meds for 6 months even now 8 months later my bp is still on the high side sitting at 138/90 on my last reading but dr happy enough it will eventually level out. I was also admitted 2 weeks prior to delivery to try and prolong pregnancy under constant monitoring. Luckily it meant we got both doses of steroids which I'm sure is the reason she needed no breathing help! These babies are little fighters. Ashleigh was a determined little girl in the scbu and she still is now! Apart from been tiny still (13lb 3oz at 8 months) you would never know she was so early, she is doing mostly everything other babies her age are except crawling I think she is going to bypass that in walk in a couple of months, my first dd did this also! Just wanted to share a positive scbu story not all babies require help etc some just need to grow a littlexx

I had dd at 31 weeks exactly - she was 3lb 4oz but only needed c-pap for 12 hours. She was in neonatal for four weeks, mainly just to grow! She was very small but just perfect :) I had a very bad infection so they thought it was probably that which had made me go into labour. It happened very quickly so I only got one of the two doses of steroids, they have to be twelve hours apart. When I fell pregnant with ds, at 30 weeks I developed obstetric cholestasis which is a liver condition that poses a risk to the baby so I was booked for induction at 36 weeks. However, when I went for my sweep the Friday before, the midwife found I was already 5cm dilated with bulging forewaters! I was taken in to hospital where they planned to keep me until my induction but my waters broke and ds was born two days later at 35+6. The whole birth took just over four hours so even quicker than dd's birth. Ds was 6lb 12.5oz and healthy apart from jaundice so he was able to stay with me on the ward which was lovely :) Good luck op, keep us posted on how you are doing xx

I had to be induced with DD at 35 weeks because my waters ruptured prematurely at 33 weeks. Labour was very quick after the pessary was inserted (pessary in at 12pm, 2 cm dilated at 3pm, DD born at 5pm) weighed 5lb 2 when born. Had a 10 day stay I'm TCU (transitional care unit) where they watched her for jaundice and put her on a strict feeding schedule to get her weight up. She was so tired from being prem that she would sleep through her feeds so she had to be tube fed until she got her strength up xxx

I had dd at 36 weeks due to IUGR. This was only diagnosed the day before she was delivered. Prior to that my local midwife had measures my bump as large and told me my baby was breech (both of which were completely wrong). Luckily I noticed a change in dd movements and went to maternity assessment. There they diagnosed IUGR and ordered an emergency scan. Dd measured at weighing just 4ib8oz so I was given steroids and immediately induced to ensure placenta was not failing.

Whilst being induced dd heart rate dropped significantly so was rushed for emergency c section and she was delivered 6.2.15 weighing 4ib7oz less than 24 hours after I first identified the change in movement.

Whilst it was unexpected and quite traumatic at the time She was completely fine on delivery however, did not spend any time in scbu. And was breastfeeding within 4 hours of her birth. She is now 7 weeks old and weighs 7ib4oz!

I had my DS at 28 weeks. I went in the day before with reduced movement and by the next morning (after steroids and magnesium sulphate) they were all ready to send me home. They decided on one last scan and that's where I started having contractions. By the time they figured out I was in labour, I was 8-9 cm dilated. They think it was due to Group B Strep as DS was very sick. He spent just over 10 weeks in NICU and came home without oxygen. He is still tiny and is on the waiting list for heart surgery (pda closure) and he also has some food allergies. Other than that he is a pretty happy baby!

Had 2 presumes and 1 full term

Preemie 1 dd, born at 25 weeks+2 not sure why but was only 14 myself so age could of been a factor for me, she was 1lb11 on vent for 4weeks and oxygen for a few months came home @4months with no problems.

Then full term ds1 @ 39 weeks 7lb12 I was 18, he was healthy and massive in comparison to the others lol

Then preemie ds2 @ 29 weeks+6 3lb7, I was 29, kinda knew he was goin to be early as was told that because I had treatment for pre cancerous cells twice, years ago, in Which they removed slithers of my cervix there was a high chance that I would go into Labour early, went for scans ever two weeks from 16 weeks till 24 weeks at which point they said if I was to go into Labour they wouldn't try to stop it, my water broke 6 days before I went into Labour and I was given steroid injections which bloody hurt!!! Then I went into Labour and 15 hours later had my ds2, was on vent for 1 night then breathing for himself, no other problems, came home 6weeks old

The nicu and staff do a fantastic job, so if you do have your baby early they will do everything to look after you both, try not to worry, easier said than done I know, take care op hope all goes well, your in my thoughts xx
