Did your preemie meet their corrected age milestones?

Dd is 7 months, 5.5 corrected. She's not yet rolling. We've been discharged from hospital but should I be worried enough to contact a dr? She's otherwise healthy and happy.

Some babies don't roll, my cousin's second child (born at 42 weeks) rolled once in her first year. She's 6 now, and seems to be ok physically!

Oh, and my early baby (36 weeks) was later than his older sisters for quite a few milestones but not sure if that was being early or a boy. Or if my daughters were just terribly advanced!

mine varied from 29 to 35 weeks. Their ability has varied but the worst was the 29 weeker (unrelated as he has other conditions) and the 35 weeker. The other two followed somewhere between their cga and aa It really does depend on the baby.

DS was only just preemie at nearly 37 weeks and didn't roll until 7 months corrected - but then walked at 10 months corrected! I have friends with term babies that still didn't roll until even later. When I was a bit worried my HV said it's not usually a milestone that doctors worry about, it's the ones like smiling, being responsive to parents' voices, holding up their heads, that tend to be concerns if missed.

My son was only just a preemie but he missed every single one of his adjusted milestones, some by a long way. He was particularly late at sitting - I mean, he didn't do it until he was 8 months old. Every time the HV was going to do more than just 'keep an eye on him', he'd get there eventually, but I'll be honest, it was a worrying time. He is absolutely fine now but I understand how you feel. I would go to the HV if I were you - it may be nothing, like in the case of my son, but if you're concerned the best thing to do is talk to them about it.

My twins were 6 weeks early.

Both smiled late - 12 weeks
Both sat up late - 8 months
Both crawled at 11 months
Walked at 14 & 16 months

So some late and some on time. It really varies. I know 3 non prem boys only walked at 18 months.

I've heard rolling is not regarded as a true milestone.

My DD (also 6 weeks early) has met all her other physical milestones on a corrected age basis but was very late to roll back to front (8 or 9 months corrected I think?) I think she just didn't see the point

If all else is on track then I really wouldn't worry.

My 29 weeker (who's CGA birthday was last week) is master at rolling. He can't do much else, can't even sit up without support, but can get anywhere by rolling!

My 28 weeker never rolled but walked at 11 months corrected and met all physical milestones at a normal corrected age.
My 41 weeker is currently 7 months and has never rolled at all but is sitting very well and starting to rock on all fours.
I don't think you need to worry about rolling at all.

I don't really pay attention to when they should be doing what. I believe they learn when they are ready and when they have plenty of encouragment :)

DD2 is 24wo(15adj) today and has caught up to her actual age which has amazed her doctors, she is officially crawling (hands & knees) and is able to sit unaided for a few minutes. She can also give kisses and always lifts her arms to be picked up, and has the most adorable laugh :)

DS4, her twin, hasn't reached many milestones yet. He can make eye contact and can hold his head up for a few seconds but shows no signs other signs like rolling over or touching his toes. He doesn't really babble and is still like a 2 month old in other areas and rarely likes to smile! But he'll get there eventually :)

Did anyone ever worry that their LO was not very cuddly. DS smiles and coos and responds well to me and DH but just doesn't like to be held/cuddled. He prefers to be looking around or kicking about on the floor. Suppose I'm just worried it's an after effect of being in an incubator for so long x

Hi Fraggle, thought I replied but it hasn't appeared.

My DD was just as you describe - didn't want to be held and cuddled. If she was on my lap she was trying to stand up or wanting to be carried around.

Now however at 16 months she is quite keen on cuddles and will often pop over for a quick cuddle before dashing off to the next important task. And she loves to sit on my lap and stroke me (ahh) while she has her morning/evening milk.

I think it is just her personality - she has always been a very active, curious baby and I think she found cuddles boring!

DS4 loves to be swaddled and rocked a certain way and if he's not wrapped to my chest he screams the house down.

However, DD2 hates to be in one place so cuddles are not high on her priority list. She does when she's tired or cranky but otherwise she'd rather explore! :)

Funny you should ask this as so far rolling is the only milestone my 26 weeker has missed, finally did it at 11 months corrected after his dad showed him what to do and he copied! Sleeping got soooo much better after that. May be related in part to flexor muscles being a little underdeveloped in extreme prems, my little theory for what it is worth. But rolling also very variable hence not part of a formal developmental check.

My ds was born at 32 weeks. He was really late learning roll. Think he was about 7 months. He was 9 months when he learnt to crawl and he's just started walking at 14 months.
