Hello, the last 3 months of my life have been hell. I was pregnant with twins at 23 weeks I got twin to twin transfusion so had to go to Birmingham for laser surgery. Everything went well until I went into labour a week after. I had two beautiful boys, jake and kian identical both weighing 620g. Unfortunately jake only lived for 13 hours. I then got septicaemia and was in hospital on a drip for two weeks. Kian is now 10 weeks old he's had a bleed in the brain, sepsis, PDA, Reflux and now isn't tolerating feeds well as well as the beginning of ROP. He is now 3lb 2oz and every time I think I can't see the light at the end of the tunnel something else comes at us. He's off oxygen now which is good but still has a lot of desats and Bradys. Please tell me how long your wee ones stayed in hospital for? I just want him home :(

That's exactly what happened with my son, the surgeons do tend to know what they're talking about and weigh up risks very carefully.

Couldnt read & not post. I had twins at 27 weeks, fortunately we had a very smooth ride through SCBU.

I am very sorry for your loss, I hope you get Kian home very soon xx

Hi Tash,

Congratulations on the arrival of your twins, and I'm sorry to hear about the loss of one of your babies. It's such a surreal, awful, sad and sometimes weirdly exhilarating time when your babies are in NICU. My DD was born at 25+3 last year so I know the horror you've been experiencing. (Sending a big big hug). She spent 10 and 1/2 weeks as inpatient, but had a slightly easier time than it sounds like you're having with your son.

The doctors told us at the beginning to look towards her due date as a guide to when we might get her home. In the end she came home at 35 weeks and at 3lb 10oz, not on oxygen. It is great news that your boy is off oxygen and should be cherished as a real achievement for this week. My DD is doing really well, and is a baby with chubby thighs (although not much chubby else). She's so well and sturdy, something that I could not even imagine when she was in hospital.

I hope you are getting lots of care and support at home as well as in hospital. Keep strong, your boy needs you. Xxx
