How do I cope??
Have googled but I can't find comparable stories. All others involve babies twice the weight.
Am struggling to be sure I am doing the right thing putting my baby boy through all this.
He has grade 4 IVH & grade 2 so have no idea of quality of life at the end of all this.
Having said that he has fought for 10 days so far. The other parents in NICU have heavier babies and not the bleeds so feel like their problems are trivial compared to my baby boys.
I feel very weepy even though I am trying to put a brave face on.
How much more can my baby boy take? I can't hold him and I just want to tell him it will be ok but I don't know that it will.

Hi Shiv, great news on Oliver's progress and lovely to hear he's giving you those gorgeous gummy grins. Hope your DHs return to work is going ok, must be hard on both of you. Fingers crossed you'll be on your way to your local hospital soon xx

Supershiv1 · 01/10/2013 23:50

Ahhhhh no smiles the last few days, but he's had a good sats study again and tge flow is being turned down.
We're having a meeting on Thursday with the consultant from Chester getting ready to move back to the paediatric ward there xx

That's great, Shiv. Does that mean he's on nasal cannula low flow oxygen now? That's a big step forward. Good luck for the meeting on Thursday - hope you get back to Chester soon - and then home! x

thomasmad · 02/10/2013 20:20

Great news Shiv, hope that meeting goes well and that you are soon on the move to your home hospital. Take care x

Beginningofthejourney · 03/10/2013 19:11

Hope the meeting went well Shiv x

Supershiv1 · 05/10/2013 10:07

He's not strictly on low flow as he is having humidification added, but he's only on one litre at thw mo and looking to turn the humidity off tomorrow.
The meeting with the Chester consultant went well and barring major catastrophe we'll be heading back to the peads ward in Chester the week after next. He'll have his own room and there's dedicated play nurses to help with his development.
Can I see the light at the end of the tunnel? :-D

There is definitely a little chink of light. Well done you and well done Oliver (and MrShiv too) Grin

Brilliant news!! it may take time to adjust to the new hospital/staff, especially when you will have formed relationships at the old place but it sounds like the communication between the hospitals is very good and that the best care possible will be in place for Oliver. Plus it is a huge step along the road to home and normality. Will be thinking of you and hoping transfer goes smoothly!!

So in the past week Oliver has had his humidity turned off and peogressed to .5 litres of low flow. We've visited the ward in Chester and transfer is definitely on!
Argh! I am now panicking that I am not organised at home!
