How do I cope??
Have googled but I can't find comparable stories. All others involve babies twice the weight.
Am struggling to be sure I am doing the right thing putting my baby boy through all this.
He has grade 4 IVH & grade 2 so have no idea of quality of life at the end of all this.
Having said that he has fought for 10 days so far. The other parents in NICU have heavier babies and not the bleeds so feel like their problems are trivial compared to my baby boys.
I feel very weepy even though I am trying to put a brave face on.
How much more can my baby boy take? I can't hold him and I just want to tell him it will be ok but I don't know that it will.

Hi just wanted to add in at this point. I always keep an eye out for NICU threads as we have been through it and know how harrowing it is. I don't usually post as I don't think our story relates very well (pretty much the opposite story to yours in that ds was full term and far and away the largest baby in NICU, unfortunately he was also one of the sickest. One of the reasons I am posting though is your last post as ds had mutiple bowel difficulties including herniation due to strangulation. I'm not sure if any of my experiences will be helpful but just wanted to put here that some of our experiences may be similar and I am willing to share and to listen if it is of any help or support at all (my ds will be 9 this year by the way)

Fantastic news Shiv Grin so so glad it went well, hope the op recovery is going well too. How are you and MrShiv holding up? Xx

Supershiv1 · 02/07/2013 09:38

Soooo the plan is to wean his pain relief, get him back to full feeds and get him off the vent. He's had amazing gases since the operation and is already on extubatable pressures and is in air -30% oxygen at different times.
Love him so much, this has to be the break we/he's been waiting for xx
