Bleeding and pain 3 weeks after medical abortion

I took the misoprostol tablets just over 3 weeks ago. Had pain the evening of and day after taking the tablets, bleeding for around 10 days and then it started to reduce to the point I didn’t need pads. Since Monday, the bleeding increased again, and when I took the test on Thursday 3 weeks after taking the tablets, there was a faint positive - I spoke to the clinic who said that it can take 6 weeks for the test to show negative but they weren’t concrned as my pregnancy symptoms had gone and I’d had a heavy bleed after taking the tablets- and sent me another test to take this week.
I started having cramps again to the point I actually had to take paracetamol today.
Has anyone else been in this situation and it hasn’t been retained material? I’m hoping it’s just my body getting rid of the last bits but I am getting concerned there is more to it 🙁

Sorry you’re going through this after making a difficult decision in the first place. I had similar a few years ago & had retained products. Was your test the one they send you or a regular home pregnancy test? A faint positive on a home one probably wouldn’t bother me too much but if the low sensitivity one they send you is still positive I’d be more concerned that there might be retained products. My bleeding continued on & off for 4 weeks & I just knew something wasn’t right. Trust your instincts & push to be seen again if needed, a scan would show if anything remains.

Thank you. The test was the one supplied by the clinic, I called the helpline after and they sent me another test to take a week later. Took it and it was negative. The pain has gone, the bleeding did stop and restarted again, it will be five weeks this coming Thursday since I had the abortion. I’m regretting my decision anyway and this is making it worse as I am constantly reminded of it. I hope you were ok after having retained products. Did you go through the abortion clinic or your GP for the scan?

I absolutely hear you that it’s impossible to start to move forwards in any way at all while it’s still hanging over you. I’m sorry to hear you are regretting your decision, it’s such a difficult choice to make & you never truly know how you will feel until you’ve decided one way or the other, be kind to yourself. Did the bleeding restart around the time you’d have expected your first period after the abortion? Mine was up & down but never had a break, sometimes just a tiny bit when I wiped & other days more, but always something. Yes the scan was arranged through bpas by calling their aftercare line, sent me for a post treatment check at the clinic who then did the scan as well as a home style pregnancy test as part of the check - that test was as dark as the control line & the scan showed a lot of retained products. I absolutely know how hard this is, I’ve been there too so here to help in any way if needed

It did start around the same time as period would have been due, but it has been stop start bleeding, it doesn’t feel like a period, more like continuation of the termination bleeding. I haven’t had anymore pain and the tests are negativeso I think I’m just one of the unlucky ones who bleeds for longer. This week coming will be 6 weeks, if I’m still bleeding then I’ll push for a scan. Thank you for your kind messages.
