Still pregnant after medical abortion or ovulating?

I had a medical abortion two weeks ago at just under 6 weeks pregnant. I only made the decision to terminate the pregnancy because my partner and I are going through some very challenging circumstances right now, but I have felt grief, guilt and regret ever since. I had a huge amount of pain and cramping after taking the pills, to the extent that I passed out, and bled what I thought was quite a lot, with some very small clots, although largely when I went to the toilet rather than soaking pads. The bleeding got better over a few days and after a week it had basically stopped. Now there is no blood at all. I have felt run down, ill and super tired ever since the abortion, and have been suffering with anemia too, but while my boobs eventually stopped aching after about 10 days the nausea hasn't totally gone away and if anything my belly has got bigger in the last few days. I am normally slim and very fit, but have put on 2.5 kg in the last few weeks with no sign of this disappearing after the abortion. My resting heart rate is also still much higher than normal (I monitor it because I'm a runner) and I am now worried that the abortion either failed or isn't complete. Alternatively I guess the swelling could be due to ovulation, but my stomach was never this swollen during ovulation before the pregnancy. It's another week before I can take the pregnancy test from BPAS and I don't know what to do.

Did you have a scan before taking the pills, to rule out the possibility of ectopic pregnancy? You might want to see a doctor if you're not feeling back to your normal self after a few weeks. I'm sorry for the grief you are going through. You're far from alone. Here's a place you can share your story or read those of others. https://yourabortionexperience.org/en I hope you are okay and can get checked out soon to put your mind more at ease.

Thank you @SilverScales. I wasn't offered a scan before the abortion because we were confident of how far along I was, but I phoned BPAS today and have been asked to come in for a follow-up scan to make sure everything's okay. It's been such a physically and emotionally difficult thing for me, and I just want to feel like my old self again. It also feels sad to still look and feel pregnant when it's highly unlikely I am.

I'm glad you reached out to the medical staff to get checked out, that's got to be a relief. Be gentle with yourself and please get whatever help you need. 🌳
