Medical abortion at home (pills by post)

I’m really hoping someone can help me.

I found out last week that I’m pregnant. I’m 36 and have two children. I cannot continue with the pregnant and so I contacted MSI (via NHS website).

I’m wondering what your experiences are with the abortion pills.
I took the 2nd lot of pills (the 4 of them), and nothing happened. So 4 hours later, took the additional 2.

how long is it before symptoms start to happen? I’m very anxious.

Hi. How long ago did you take the additional set of 2 pills? My experience was…nothing happped at all after taking the first 4 pills. Took the other two 3 hours later and within 2 hours the pain and cramping started, and then within another 2 hours I had passed the pregnancy.
Inserted the first 4 at 7.30
inserted other 2 at 10.30
pregnancy passed by 2.30

It will be different for everyone but you give no indication of how long ago you started the process…if it’s today, you’ve got time for stuff to happen. If it was days ago, I’d be wanting to contact my MA provider as you should have bled by now.

So I inserted the first 4 today at 12pm.
Then the other 2 at 3pm.

Nothing has happened yet. I know I’m being impatient. Maybe it will start soon.

Hey did anything happen? I've just done this over weekend and I've ended up in hospital today with many scans and hours of bloods as I haven't bled or cramped at all I did the pills Saturday and Sunday and unfortunately they are thinking eptoic pregnancy it's awful :(

I’m sorry for what you are going through, it’s a stressful thing to go through without any added complications:-( I hope you are ok.

I started to bleed yesterday, but no more than I would when I’m on my period. I wouldn’t call my pain “cramps”…they’re more of a slight twinge every so often. I’m able to carry on as normal. This started for me 40 hours after taking the last 2 tablets (they say to wait atleast 48 hours for things to begin). I don’t know if it’s going to get any worse or not, everyone is different. I’m always worried I won’t know if everything has passed or not.

Its hard to know what to expect because when I read all the patient stories on the website, nearly all of them say everything happened on the same day. Not one of them said it took them 2 days to start.

Aww that's good I'm currently 3 days in after taking the tablets Sunday and unfortunately nothing has happened at all I am going back to hospital tomorrow for more bloods to check if my HCG levels are lowering and a scan next Tuesday not how I wanted this to go wanted it done by now but yh I am okay so far thank you for asking I guess all you can do is wait a few weeks and take the pregnancy test to see if it has worked.

I know this sounds silly, but it could be the same for you… when I was trying for my second child, I had a positive pregnancy test - in fact….I did 4 positive tests lol. Went for my first midwife appointment to do all the “paperwork”. Eventually, I went to my first 12 week scan, only to discover that I wasn’t pregnant. I had been, but I must’ve taken the test when I’d already lost the baby very very early on. The HCG levels must’ve been low but still showing on all the preg tests I did. Maybe this is what has happened with you. It would be the best case in a bad situation - if that makes sense?

I was wondering this they did say I am so early it may have just dissolved and will just bleed how long did it take for you to pass the pregnancy? How long did you test positive for? Is it like a chemical pregnancy?

That’s the thing…I had no symptoms of a miscarriage. No cramping, no heavy bleeding. Nothing. But it obviously all came away because when I went for what should’ve been the 12 week scan, she said the “sac was empty”. I did a test there and then while I was at the scan and it was negative. I’d never heard of such thing until it happened to me and then I got googling. It’s quite common. x

Oh right how long after this did you get your period if you don't mind me asking?

It’s ok, ask as much as you like.
I didn’t have a period during the time I thought I was still pregnant. That might’ve been due to hormones changing etc. it came like the week after my scan and was normal. And then it was normal every month after that.
it was a strange experience. Positive tests, no miscarriage symptoms but also no period. I would never of known I wasn’t pregnant. I didn’t think to do more tests as I’d already done 4.

Do you still have the low sensitivity pregnancy test that came in the pack with the pills? And how long has it been since you did the positive test? x

They tested me at the hospital yesterday both came back positive still and thank you for this information hopefully this is the case I'll find out soon as they checking my HCG levels

Hey so they took more bloods yesterday and I started cramping then today I am bleeding but light bleeding waiting for them to call me with HCG results not cramping today no blood clots just a bit of bleeding light enough not filling a pad xx

Just frustrated because the hospital haven't called me back and I'm not sure if this bleeding is enough need to the HCG level results to know how are you going? Xx

Give them another call. Sometimes it doesn’t hurt to be a pain in the butt. Sometimes they need a prod.
For me, it’s like a period now. A never ending one. I’ve only had twinges of pain every so often. Nothing like I was expecting. I don’t even know if everything has passed what is meant to pass because I haven’t had proper pain. It’s so weird. Xx

I rang them again this morning got funny with me said they will call me back today my bleeding has slowed right down not sure what's happening

Still no call so I assume I'll just have to wait till my scan Tuesday my bleeding has basically ended altogether? And I'm starting to feel sickness extreme tiredness ect :( just fed up want it over with how r u doing today? Xx

Sorry for delayed reply sweet. That’s annoying that they’re being like that with toy. It’s a scary when you have no idea to expect so it’s shitty of them to not be reassuring. Is it worth calling the aftercare team? Or is that who you called?

I had no bleeding at all yesterday. I’m still unsure myself as to whether it’s passed. I’m just gonna wait until I have to take that preg test that came with the kit, and then take it from there.
Sometimes I wonder if it’s because we were so early on in the pregnancy and that’s why we haven’t had the full side effects? I have bi idea and it annoys me not knowing xxx

Yh definitely it's frustrating and I've been under the hospital bpas sent me to hospital after the scan and they just aren't calling me back driving me nuts! Hope you are okay and hope the pregnancy test is negative xx

Hey update they can see baby 5 weeks 5 days but can't see heart beat yet so I need to now ring BPAS for another round of the pills couldn't get any worse how r u..??

Have to wait till NEXT Friday to be seen as baby had no heartbeat BPAS said got to wait and see if it has one or not if it does I can use pills if it don't I have to have injection but it's awful as I feel pregnant super sick backache ect...and got to stay pregnant for 9 more days which therefore will make me 7 weeks and 1 day when i have the pills thats way further than id like to have been :( awful are you okay??? Xx

Just an update it's all over now got to do the medical abortion at home yesterday and today passed a ton of clots but hardly any pain but I am confident my story has finally come to an end x
