39 yrs old, 2 teenagers and an unexpected pregnancy

Hi,
I recently discovered that I am expecting. It’s very early in the pregnancy and can not decide whether or not to continue.
I have two teenagers, a career I’m passionate about and a loving partner.

During the age of 29-35 I desperately wanted another baby, due to multiple miscarriages (as a result of a medical condition) I finally come to terms with the fact that I was very fortunate to have two children already. Therefore, focused on my career (which has been successful) and found solitude in holidays and getting some independence back.

Then at 39 came an unexpected surprise. In my heart I want to try to have this pregnancy but emotionally I don’t think I can face another miscarriage.

I worry about the impact a successful pregnancy would have on us financially, we’re both working and have decent salaries but it would mean things would be tighter, especially with the cost of living and childcare. I don’t have family who could assist.

I also worry about the impact it would have on our teenagers, my eldest is very career driven and wants to go to university. I’m conscious I could not afford to help if another child was needing support too.

I worry about my age and with the medical condition the implications that may cause, I still need to remain fit for the children I have already.

My partner says he supports whatever decision I make.

Completely torn between my heart and my head. I’d love to hear any similar experiences.

I’m in a similar situation. How are you doing?

I’m sorry to hear you’re in a similar situation. It’s a real war between your heart and head.
We have decided to take each day one at a time.
The saying ‘Que sera sera’ comes to mind.
