Positive pregnancy test Negative blood test 7 weeks after abortion

I have been testing positive on pregnancy tests since 6 weeks after my abortion. I went to the dr yesterday and they did a blood test it came back 5 mIU but i took my last pregnancy test today and it is still positive. It’s not a very sensitive test I think it’s one that detects 20-25 mIU and up so how could it still be positive? If it were a new pregnancy surely it would be higher than 5 mIU especially to detect on a test and if the abortion failed then the level would be way higher has this happened to anyone else?

Hi! I’m no scientist but I think I’ve seen in the instruction book for pregnancy tests that false positives are common post abortion or miscarriage. This is because it takes a while for HCG levels to drop to normal levels. So I think that’s why.

I see you said that your blood level was 5mIU and you thought the pregnancy tests only detected 25mIU. Hmm, that is a little strange. Maybe pregnancy tests get a faint line upon even 5mIU being there. That’s be the only thing that made sense. Hopefully somebody with more direct experience can confirm.
