I'm told to expect a lot of pain as that's max for medical abortion. Worried. Please can you share your experiences??? Thankyou xx

OP this I'd recommend you ask the Mumsnet team to move this thread to pregnancy choices rather than the Pregnancy board x

Not proud to say I had one at 8 weeks. Pain was like a really bad period but the hospital gave me codeine.
To be honest, it's the emotional trauma you go through after that was the worst for me. I still haven't forgiven myself and that was 4 years ago.
Be strong as it can affect you mentally.
Just giving you the heads up.

You should be proud for your strength. I am worried about the mental toll but because of the circumstances I just feel relief I think xx maybe feel different tomorrow though. I have struggled and been upset especially seeing the scan but I knew I had to do what was right. I'm quite worried about being in pain and passing the pregnancy alone xx

I know everyone's circumstances are different. I truly hope you feel ok. The time period it's self for the baby to pass is less than 24 hours. You should be fine. It's just like a bad cramp. I did it by myself. My daughter was in her room sleeping next door and I just tossed and turned with the pain. Tearful and cried for days. I sometimes still get tearful if I hear people talk negatively about abortion or think about it..but try not to be too hard on yourself. You'll be fine.

I had a medical abortion 3 years ago at 9 weeks 5 days. I had a 1 year old daughter at the time.

Took the first pill and then went back 24 hours later to take the second. Was then given a suppository antibiotic tablet to insert in private. I then went home. Both appointments took less than 10 minutes.

Got home and had set myself a camp up in my bedroom. TV and dvds, lots of snacks and drinks, paracetamol and ibuprofen and a hot water bottle. I took paracetamol and alternated with ibuprofen for 24 hours. I had been expecting lots of pain but can honestly say there was none. Unsure if it's because I've had a child before but genuinely, no pain at all. Laid in bed watching films with a pad on and loads of blankets underneath. Make sure you have some heavy flow pads ready.

TW: every so often I would feel some slight pressure below and have to waddle to the toilet where blood would come out. The third time I went I passed what I assume was the pregnancy. I didn't look but it felt like a larger clot. After that I just had some heavy bleeding like a period for a couple of days, then light bleeding for I think a week after.

Honestly I have no regrets about it. At the time I was in a bad situation and could not have brought another baby into the world. It wasn't painful and the relief I felt afterwards was all the confirmation I needed that I'd done the right thing.
Three years later I'm in a lovely happy situation and now have a much wanted baby.

Hope you're ok, sorry you're in this situation OP.

I had one at 5+6 days and honestly the pain was unbearable. Looking back it felt like active labour (I had a baby since). I'd recommend taking the codeine as soon as you notice any bleeding or spotting from the internal pills as they made me throw up which obviously the codeine came up too so had to do it pain free. It lasted about 4 hours until I could take more tablets.

Another suggestion is to buy some maternity pads. My bleeding was soooo heavy you need thicker pads than night time ones! Good luck. Try not to think of the mental side of it. I was glad I did it but felt equally as guilty but everyone is different x

Hi, I recently had medical at 9 weeks 4 days... i was really scared of what could happen but physically the procedure was not as bad as I expected. I just took ibuprofen and paracetamol before but didn't need to follow it up. I did have cramping after the second tablets but not bad at all. Would make sure you're resting and near a toilet as was lots of blood which slowed once pregnancy passed.
For me I am still struggling mentally 2 months later but was unsure of my decision and wish I'd taken more time to think things through. If you're sure then hopefully you're cope well emotionally...
Sorry you're in this situation...x

Hi.

I had a medical abortion at just under 6 weeks. Was a lot better than what I thought it was going to be. Bleeding started about an hour after the second lot of pills. Bleeding was very heavy for about 48 hours, cramping pains but nothing too bad. Dosed up on painkillers and a hot water bottle was the best treatment. Bled for about a week, stopped bleeding but then started bleeding again a few days later. Hope your okay. Please don't be nervous xx

I took them 25 minutes ago so I expect bleeding in about half an hour. I took 2 codeine beforehand but I feel stressed waiting for the worst pain ever. I hope it's not bad at all and I'm overthinking it. When I feel bleeding I'm just going to go to the toilet so I can't see it as much. My flats a mess and there's sick on the actual carpet because I didn't make it to the toilet this morning and I don't know if I can even stand up yet and clean because I inserted them vaginally. Do you think I'll be fine to get on with it and do the housework? Cant stand to sit here in all the mess feeling like rubbish ): x
