Worried medical abortion at 8 weeks has not worked

Hi, can anyone who has had a medical abortion offer some advice?

I took the second set of tablets around 8am this morning and within a couple of hours had bad cramps and heavy bleeding. This lasted for about 4 hours and the cramps got really bad and there was a lot of blood. I have passed a lot of smallish clots but worried I have not passed the pregnancy sac. Things have settled down a bit now and just getting bad cramps and heavy bleeding on and off.

I would have thought at 8 weeks I would be aware when I passed the pregnancy sac. Getting myself worked up that it has not worked.

Can anyone share their experiences?

Thanks x

Hello - I was 8 weeks and wouldn’t have been able to pin point passing the pregnancy. Im only two weeks post though, so haven’t done the pregnancy text at 3 weeks but I don’t have any pregnancy symptoms.

I had to take 4 tablets and then 2 more a few hours later.

Can you call the advice line? I found them very helpful…

Hope you okay x

Hi @Paintingflowers thanks so much for replying.

It's reassuring to know that you weren't aware of passing the pregnancy. I thought I would be aware as assumed it would be quite big. I have felt lots of clots come out but they haven't felt very big. Was that the same for you? Have had bad sickness for the last 3 weeks and still feeling sick so panicking it hasn't worked. I suffer from anxiety so keep winding myself up!

It's been 12 hours now since I did the 4 tablets, did the following 2 4 hours later. Just getting bad cramps on and off now and heavy bleeds with small clots.

I called the advice line earlier and they just said to see how I get on and call back later.

Thanks x

Sounds as if everything going to plan , just look after yourself and try to rest

Thanks @coldfeetmama, I hope so.

This has been a really difficult decision and I feel awful so really hope it doesn't drag on and make things even harder.

Spoke to a nurse at the clinic earlier and she said if I still feel like I haven't passed the sac in a few days to call back and they will scan me so that was reassuring.

I've read stories of medical abortions failing and the pregnancy continuing which frightened me!

I understand- follow the steps of self assessment given , should be a reminder in your booklet , watch the videos on you tube and try not to worry too much
All will be ok 💐

I miscarried at 8 weeks and wouldn’t have known I had passed the sack if the hospital wasn’t having me pee in dishes.

I just passed clots. I was told I had passed the sack by the nurse or I wouldn’t have known

How are you feeling @Needsomeadviceplease1234?

Needsomeadviceplease1234 · 14/03/2022 20:52

@Paintingflowers I'm getting a lot of strong cramps which is making me think I haven't passed everything. Also very emotional but I guess that's the guilt and hormones!

Hope you are OK x
