Pregnancy Test after Medical Abortion

I did a low sensitivity pregnancy test today about 2 1/2 weeks after a medical abortion but I’m very stuck on whether I can see 2 lines or just one? Any help would be appreciated - these photos were taken within about 10 minutes of taking the test

I can see something on the first one but I don’t really know where the line is supposed to be on those ones. Can you take a more sensitive one? Did they advise you to take one to check everything happened as it should?

I can also see a faint line on the left, so it does look to be a faint positive. I know with MSI I was advised to take the test 3 weeks later, maybe this could be why you may still have a faint positive?
I would probably recommend getting in touch with your care provider and see what they offer, whether it be a post-treatment check up or another test sent out so you can repeat soon Smile

I see two but the second is faint. Should be a negative 3 weeks after medical termination. If not, please contact the team who gave you the termination medication x

@User0610134049 hi yes they advised that I take one 3 weeks after the procedure but I took it a little earlier - I had to take a low sensitivity one because HGC levels can apparently still be quite high for a few weeks following a medical abortion

@Beeheart I took it a little earlier because I was only 5/6 weeks when I did the medical abortion so I thought that the levels would have dropped quite a lot since they weren’t really that high to begin with

I’m thinking of trying again with just a normal one in a couple of days time to see if that one is positive or not? I’m not sure whether it’s worth calling BPAS because the second line on the left looks smudged and not a straight line as I would expect with a positive pregnancy test (like the first one I did when I was pregnant) but I don’t know whether this is a massive mistake on my part! 🤦‍♀️ The test has dried up further and it looks like it’s a negative now but it stated to not read it after the 10 minute mark so I’m not sure whether to go with that or not

Just wondering how you got on with another test @Bumble423. I'm in the same position, bleeding stopped so took the test at 2 weeks (MSI choices say leave it 3 but bleeding stopped & I was only just over 5 weeks). The dye ran & the control line only had colour on half of it but I could still see a faint line on the test side.
Bleeding randomly started again that day but stopped now, took another test about an hour ago (regular pregnancy test) and it was very clearly positive.
This is 15 days post abortion, I'm going to test again on Friday when it'll be 3 weeks & then call MSI choices if need be but just wondering what your experience has been as we're in a similar situation! Hope you're doing ok Smile

Hi @Jsh125! I haven’t actually done the second test yet as it’s been quite hectic the past couple of days 🤦🏻‍♀️ So I can’t give you a straight answer! I’ll let you know as soon as I do but I wouldn’t worry too much about getting a positive this early on after a termination with a normal pregnancy test as they tend to be very sensitive - if you don’t ‘feel’ pregnant anymore it’s probably worked Smile Flowers

@Jsh125 I’ve done a normal one this morning, it’s negative Smile hope you’re doing okay Flowers

Thanks for letting me know - glad it all turned out fine for you in the end 😊.

I'm ok thanks for asking 😊. The bleeding has stopped again for me so hoping that's it now. I've been feeling slightly nauseous each morning (but nothing at all compared with the 2 pregnancies I continued with). Assuming it's just hormone levels dropping slowly & hoping the test on Thursday will be negative. Fingers crossed!

Hi, I say this with good intentions! But that Is really bad advice! I have previously had a medical abortion and was advised to take the pregnancy test 2 weeks later. I did and it came back positive. I had an ultrasound scan and it showed that all tissue and what not related to the pregnancy had come away from me. However, what would have been the foetus was still inside my womb! I then had to go for a vacuum aspiration abortion and take a week's anti bionics.
Please always contact the service that you had the abortion with and get further advice if you show a positive result after an abortion x

I thought I would come back to post on this thread to help and share my experiences with those that might be reading currently.

After taking the normal regular pregnancy test and it showing negative, I did contact my abortion provider who advised that given it was a negative result the abortion will have been successful - which thankfully, it was!

Going back, I should have take the low sensitivity pregnancy test at exactly 3 weeks after the procedure for avoidance of doubt. But if you are in doubt about the possibility of the pregnancy having continued, definitely contact your abortion provider as soon as you can. I took a regular pregnancy test about a week after the low sensitivity pregnancy test given to me by the abortion provider which showed a negative result, and then called my abortion provider. I do think a part of the reason as to why I was not worried was because the symptoms of pregnancy that I had previously experienced, ie nausea, headaches, dizziness etc., had started to go away slowly during this week.

As stated above, if you are in any doubt whatsoever, please contact your abortion provider for further advice.

How soon after the first set of tablets did you take the test they gave you? You need to wait at least 3 weeks to use the test they gave you for an accurate result
