6 weeks & no heartbeat seen on ultrasound, is it too early?

Went to my EPU today for a scan as I have been having light brown spotting for a few days. I’m currently around 6 weeks pregnant. Went for my scan and they couldn’t detect the heartbeat, they have booked me in for another scan next Friday to see if anything’s progressed.

I only ovulated around 3rd July so by conception date only really 5+5. Should I prepare for the worst?

Was it a vaginal or abdominal scan ?
Are you slim ?
Not automatically bad news
Can be the expertise of the scanner
The fullness ( for tummy) or emptiness ( for vaginal) of the bladder

I think officially by 8 weeks is when a heartbeat should be detected, which is the time the risk of a miscarriage goes down by about 80% (I think, been a long time) so there is still time.

I’m no expert but it’s does seem very early for that?

I booked a scan at 6w bang on (ivf) and was warned by the scanner that it was the very earliest they’d scan because they might not see the heartbeat and it could cause unnecessary upset.

I saw one heartbeat then another sac. She scanned over again and there was a little flickering heartbeat, but it led to 2 very nerve wracking weeks where we waited to see if the second one made it.

I was told that brown spotting was ok (admittedly I was on progesterone) but that red fresh blood was cause for concern.
