Can anyone tell me what terminations were like in the 80s?

My mother always told me she was put under anaesthetic for a termination before she had me, and that they couldn't bring her round again. She has form for 'stretching the truth', shall we say, and based on my knowledge of modern methods, this sounds pretty extreme.

Would this have meant an incredibly late-stage abortion, or was it common practice for the time?

Thewolvesarerunningagain Please don’t worry your post wasn’t triggering. I went past the place last year and it brought back all the memories. Only now 30 years later I realise how awful it was and feel really sad for that 18 year old me who like so many was young, didn’t tell anyone apart from the useless boyfriend, made my own way there and home and never spoke about it again. I remember feeling really traumatised for a long time but burying it.

I hope options/conditions are better for women now.

Same experience in the 1980s, GA at 8 weeks and in a roomful of women of all ages before and after. They did them all in one session Saturday mornings. I was the only one not accompanied by a partner and I had to lie to my parents, who were looking after my DC at home.

Sorry 11 weeks, don’t know what happened to that post!

Just found this thread. Things have come along. I took a tablet at home. I was offered counselling but didn't take up the offer. Midwife did a phone consultation and she was kind to me.
