Please help? Medical abortion at 4/5 weeks with only little bleed. In a country where this is illegal!

I'm in a country where abortion is illegal.

I am 5 weeks pregnant I think (I had implantation bleeding just over a week ago).

I took the medical abortion pills 5 days ago. I experienced bad cramping but only passed a very small amount of blood.

My stomach and breasts are still tender. I am so worried it didn't work and that I could get an infection. It feels tender to touch where my ovaries are.

Did anyone else only experience a small amount of bleeding? I have no abnormal discharge or pain.

I am feeling very scared and overwhelmed.

Please can anyone advise?

Hi,
Hope you are OK. How did you know you were pregnant and when was your last period? Knowing how far along you are may help. I've had chemicals end naturally at 5 weeks without much bleeding. I had a medical at 9 weeks and there was quite a lot of blood and clots but it took several days to start - I thought it hadn't worked but then it kicked in.

Thank you for replying. I was due on my period on Monday 22nd March and I did the pregnancy test last Friday on 26th March. I took the tablets that Friday night. I probably had a tablespoon worth of blood over the course of 24 hours in a pad. Although before this blood I passed a very small pink mucus type blood/sac with a tiny black dot in it. I tried to get it out of the toilet to look at it. I should've taken a photo, I just didn't think. I was hopeful that could've been something but maybe I'm clutching at straws and am very naive.

I've never been pregnant before. I can't even process it all really. I just know I'm not in a position to have a baby. I'm more scared about myself at the moment ending up in hospital in a country where I can't speak the language and it's illegal.

Sorry I missed a bit! My last period was around 21st February. I generally have a 28 day cycle.

Oh OP that all sounds very hard. The risk of infection is very low and if you did end up in hospital I'm not sure you'd need to tell them you took any tablets - natural miscarriages are extremely common as well and I don't think the tablets would affect the liklihood of infection. Your cycles may just be a little messed up and you may find that you have a heavier bleed next time. Have you taken a pregnancy test since?
After my medical I got a little ill a few days later. I was convinced it was an infection but it wasn't. The doc thought it was probably just run down/stress and worry. Is there anyone that knows who can support you?

I'd read that I have to wait 3 weeks to take another test as I will have the hormone still. Could it be possible to have a negative result sooner?

I have my partner here supporting me and he's being great. He is from this country so I'm not alone. He contacted a feminist group for me and we were advised that having just a little blood can be normal for someone who has a very early pregnancy.

After reading on here though that pretty much everyone passes at the minimum a normal period type amount of blood I am really panicking. I've had some normal white discharge these past few days which I'm also reading is a sign of pregnancy.

Ive really taken for granted the excellent healthcare I've had in my country - and access to legal abortions.

Yes that is true but (and this might not be the best advice!) the line will be faint and get fainter if you are no longer pregnant. If you are, it'll get stronger. Not scientific but it worked for me. Hope you're OK today!

That's good to know. When I did the initial pregnancy test it was 2 very strong lines straight away!

I'm feeling a little better today as my stomach has gone down and my breasts don't feel as full. So I'm hoping it's a good sign.

Thank you for your advice x

I hope things go well for you, OP, it must be very stressful not being able to access legal abortion services at this time. Just to reassure you that when I had a medical abortion at an early gestation it produced far less blood than a period.

Thank you @skeggycaggy that is really reassuring x

I know you said abortions where u are are illegal but you could go to the hospital saying your pregnant but had bleeding and think u could of miscarried? They’d likely do a scan/ check bloods for hcg levels and infection etc? They can’t test for misoprostal x

anon1984 · 08/04/2021 16:17

Thank you @Mummyto3GBG Yes I found out I could do that which was reassuring. I have however been bleeding now for a week finally and I'm pretty sure it's worked as all of my pregnancy symptoms have gone. I can take a test and find out soon.
