Spotting around period - Contraceptive Implant

Hi everyone

Wasn't sure where to post this so hope it's ok under this topic.
I had the contraceptive implant inserted on the 19th of July so will be 4 weeks I've had it on this Wednesday coming (the 16th). I actually started my period a few days before I had my implant done, so was around 3/4 days in to my period when I had it put in.

I started spotting Saturday morning, but was more like a bit of an orange/pink tinge discharge as apposed to actual red spotting (just thought the start of period and it'll get heavier and redder). Yesterday (Sunday) I hardly had anything but was little pink at times when I wiped and no real need for a towel. This morning the "spotting seemed a little heavier" but again it seems to be a tinged discharge as apposed to real spotting. I have put a sanitary towel on, but again only seems to be a small amount of brown spotting on the towel and pink brown when I wipe.

What's going on? Is it the implant messing around with my cycle? I have always been very heavy and and regular. Usually the first day I start brown/pink and then gets redder and heavier to very heavy a few days in.

I was informed that the implant won't be effective for the first 7 days and we didn't have sex for those 7 days as I was on for some of it anyway. We have had sex once or twice since having it fitted but I don't think I could be pregnant as the implant is contraceptive.

Anyone else have an experience with this or any helpful input. TIA x

Have you POAS?

BringMeTea123 · 14/08/2017 15:05

Sorry, what is POAS? Pee on a stick? I haven't if that's what you mean 🙈. The lady who inserted my implant made me do a pregnancy test before she did it. It was negative obviously x

The implant can affect periods so probably the hormones that are causing the spotting

Most common side effects of NEXPLANON

The most common side effect of NEXPLANON is a change in your normal menstrual bleeding pattern. In studies, 1 in 10 women stopped using NEXPLANON because of an unfavorable change in their bleeding pattern. You may have:

*Longer or shorter bleeding during your period
*No bleeding at all during the time of your period
*Spotting between your periods
*Varied amounts of time between your periods

Thank you @dementedpixie I was aware of the possible side effects, I just assumed I'd be on the other end of the spectrum and get heavy prolonged bleeding as I've never really spotted before. Fingers crossed it won't last too long! 🤞🏼x
