late termination

me and my partner face a late termination (23 weeks) on tuesday. ive already had a child, but with unforseen complications, it would be unfair to the child for us to have it, for starters i didnt even know i was pregnant until 21 weeks. im devistated to have to do this, and i dont know what to expect. i have to have an injection through the stomach to avoid a live birth, then take a pill and birth her the next day. has anyone been through this? knows how it feels? im worried beyond belief, not for me, for baby, will she feel anything?

I'm so sorry to hear this and hope you are managing ok.

We discovered problems at my sons 20week scan. His left leg had not developed properly and was missing a bone. He also had clubbed feet and scoliosis.

We opted to continue with the pregnancy following an amnio to check theyre was no underlying issue. Unfortunately we discovered ds had died naturally at 27 weeks.

I briefly thought about tfmr. I think the injection would have been done like the amnio. Not sure what baby felt but assume nothing.

As for the birth they called it a mini labour. He was my first and only child so far so i have nothing to compare it to but it certainly didnt feel mini to me (bar him coming out probably).

If i ever had to do it again i would probably opt for epidural at the beginning.

The injection which is done in a similar way to an Amnio does work pretty much immediately. They will check after around five mins.

They will induce you if you haven't gone into labour naturally and you will be offered all the usual pain relief.

I named my son because to me it was important.

I would have a good long think about your choices and make the choice that is right for you and your family xx
