termination because of weight?

Hi everyone.
I'm quite ashamed to be writing this. I'm very much overweight and have accidently become pregnant. I was overweight when pregnant with my dd but I didn't weigh as much as I do now, although I'm now losing weight, so far I've lost 1st stone 2 pounds

I was also young and naive and didn't really know much about pregnancy and the risks. I had a textbook pregnancy and birth. Since then I have become anxious by my health. I know now thanks to lot of anxious research that being obese increases the chance of death in pregnancy and huge complications. I am scared so very scared. I don't dare continue because I'm scared for my health, but deep down I would love this child. Has anyone terminated because of this before? I'm so lost and confused.

Call your MW and leave a message so that you can be seen first thing Monday. Be really blunt- say your anxiety is so bad you have considered terminating the pregnancy.

I really really feel for you, I have MH issues and needed help through both of my pregnancies and I know there is a wealth of help out there. You are not alone!

It is also completely possible to use this pregnancy as a springboard for weight loss. You could end it lighter than you are now, and therefore healthier and with a better life expectancy- this is totally doable for women who begin pregnancy with BMIs of 30+

Thank you. I don't have a mw yet, only just found out 3 days ago and was using contraception so still sinking in a bit.

I have an upset stomach now so I'm worried about ectopic pregnancy. This is what this anxiety does, just mental torture and it's only just started. Thank you everyone for not judging me. X

Then getting a midwife is your number one priority. Call the MW bit of your doctors/local hospital and they will be able to talk the whole thing through with you.

Can you contact your therapist for the health anxiety? She/he needs to be aware and may need to start scheduling in extra sessions.

Absolutely no judgement. Never.

I was 17 stone pregnant with ds2, in fact I then went on to actually lose 2 and a half stone while pregnant with him, as I did a slimming world midwife monitored plan back then....and he was then born a very healthy 10lb 4!

I'm not saying that's the answer, as I know how crippling anxiety can be, but I wanted you to know, there are other options rather than termination if this baby is much wanted as a sibling. Speak to your MW and talk it through xxx

I'm currently 26 wk preg with baby number 1 and also in obese category- weighed just shy of 16 st at start of pregnancy and was going through a period of acute anxiety at start of pregnancy. I def know where you are coming from as I felt terrible about my weight. However, after I was through the first trimester, my anxiety got a bit better due to good medication, and I also saw a consultant and was given nutritional advice and offered extra scans. I'd say you have a good chance of having a perfectly normal pregnancy, but you have to try and stay calm and healthy, for your own sake as much as the baby's. Eat healthy foods and go for short walks each day. Simple but it really helped me.
Also I agree you def need to speak with your gp and your therapist ASAP. Anxiety is a very irrational beast and takes over everything. Speaking to gp and therapist might help you gain back some control. Also remember you are still in the "shock" stage of just finding out. Xxx
