Medical Abortion - is this what it's meant to be like

Hello, I really hope someone can help.
Its been a really tough time. I was just over 5 weeks pregnant - we couldnt see anything but a yolk on the ultrasound, it was very early days. This wasnt a process I ever thought I'd go through but circumstances said so.

Yesterday I had the 4 tablets of Misoprostol and went home. I thought it would have been a crazy mad rush to go home for the process to take place. It wasn't. I fell asleep when I went home thanks to the anti sickness meds and woke up. I went to the bathroom and heard the "plop" they talk about on internet posts.I couldnt see anything in the toilet to be fair, except a mass of blood at the bottom. it was too dark.

It was as simple as that.

Since then i have only had tiny clots with bleeding. I have had no pain at any point.I'm so confused, I expected so much worse than this (I feel I deserve to tbh). I think I've had worse periods in my life.

I can function fine, I'd go out, id even go to work.

Is this normal, should I expect the worst is still to come?

My bleeding went on and off. I bled quite heavily the first night, but then stopped for a day or two, before starting again. I don't remember any significant pain, other than the bloody antibiotics they have me which made me feel rough as for the better part of a week.

Everyone is different, and everyone will bleed to different levels.

And you really don't deserve to feel bad, my love Flowers

I had mad uncontrolled gushes of blood which caused an enormous mess. I suspect everyone is different.

Hope you're ok Flowers

Thank you Thurlow , in fact I have forgotten to take the antibiotics so will do with my next meal. Thats awful. I had the dihydrocodene last night and i needed peeling off the ceiling. It took the edge of my emotions at least.

My past labours havent ever really been painful until last minute so I was prepared for my ridiculous pain threshold to confuse me. :/ Do you think I could assume the sac had gone yesterday?

MaCosta Thank you. I am better than I thought I would be, I'm not sure if I'm just lost right now and it's not all set in.

Hope you're ok and being kind to yourself.

I had one at 7 weeks, bled a bit but not much, and assumed all was ok.

it wasn't. I took another test as advised 4 weeks later and had to have a surgical at 12 weeks. horrible Blush

Not trying to scare you, just be aware it can happen and test as soon as you can.

sounds like you've bled more than I did, apparently I was the unlucky 1 in 1000.

Thanks and Brew. for you x

I feel like crying now, someone actually replied to me, its a relief. I was on another forum before and got no answers

claryfarey This is what I am a bit worried about. My friend suggested it may be because I was so early on, not much to see? My miscarriages were a bit like this years ago.

Everyone has a different experience. I had no pain at all to the point of being bored followed by 25 mins of intense pain. And that was it! All on the same day, no further pain after and just heavyish bleeding for a couple of days. It was different to what I was expecting too. Flowers

clareyfarey · 13/02/2015 14:28

if you're at all worried, go and make an appointment to see someone. I'm not sure, but maybe you could ask for a scan to check it's all happened as expected?

its so unfair that after you've made such a hard decision already that you have to cope with other stress on top.

it sounds like you did pass something large, so you're probably ok :)

I was just VERY unlucky, and I've never heard of anyone else it's happened to.
Thanks

I had mine at 6 weeks and if you look further down the pages, I pretty much had same as you. x

SecretRed · 17/02/2015 18:27

I had one at 6 weeks with no pain except for a few twinges. After the initial large loss I bled for about 5 days though.

MrsTedCrilly · 01/03/2015 14:27

Hope you're okay Marshmallow Flowers I had two that were very different.. Both 5 weeks though. My first was just like a heavy painful period for an evening, changed pads a few times, it was over the next day. The second was the same in the evening, and then for a week I gushed blood randomly.. It was scary at first but the helpline said it was normal.
So there is no set experience. Please don't feel guilty, we do these things with good reason Flowers
