Hi DH and i went for our 12 week scan on Friday and it showed our babies bowel is growing outside its body. We lost our baby boy last year, so we have found this incredibly hard to cope with. I had a cvs on Friday and the first set of results will be on wed/thurs.
Does anyone have any experience of this as our heads and emotions are all over the place?

xx

Hi! I went for an ultrasound and was measuring 12 weeks 2 days. It showed that the babies intestines growing on the outside and the hole in the abdominal wall. Is it possible for those to correct themselves safely inside at this point? Or do you think it's too late? From what I read on your post, it very well could still be fine, since I was in the beginning of 12th week. I have been doing a lot of research on this since my appt on Monday and have been stressing! Hopefully you can get back to me.. Even though this was almost 7 years ago when you commented on this.

Hi I've read through your message I was born with Exomphalos in 1991 so I am 28 now and 29 in October of this year.
When I was first born I was taken to be operated on near enough straight away. Doctors knew I had due to my mother having a scan and finding it very much like yourself. So they were ready with infection control to cover my organs. After the OP I responded very much as a normal baby does I was still feeding and reactive and also going to the toilet normally. My exompalos was rather large so I'm trying to offer you some knowledge that it is not all bad. Apart from a visible scar where my belly button would have been I am healthy and have been able to participate in many activities and have lived a very active lifestyle without pain or distress. I am happy to talk further with you on this if you would like to xx

The OP has said the baby has Patau's which is usually considered not compatible with life, so this is not going to rectify itself.

So sorry you are going through this again OP. I'm thinking about you and sending love. Please be kind to yourself.
