Off and On "Morning" Sickness

Daynee · 12/02/2010 12:38

Okay, this is my 5th pregnancy. I had 4 mc's before, and I'm ridiculously nervous. This week I've started having bad nausea and barfed a few times! I've never had this "morning" sickness, which is actually sickness at all times of the day.

I'm trying to see this as a good sign but today I haven't felt any at all on the drive to work...and usually the car sets it off big time.

I'm wondering if this is normal, and have any of you experienced the sickness on and off, like some days you don't have it?

Thanks in advance for your feedback...

Firstly - congratulations!

Secondly - this sounds completely normal to me. I remember being really worried in the early days as my morning sickness kept coming and going.

Things like the smell/taste of chicken set me off really badly for a week and then the next week I couldn't get enough of it...

Admittedly, I have never had to suffer through any mc's but I definitely felt sick some days and then completely normal on other days and I'm now nearly 33 weeks.

I hope that puts your mind at ease a bit.

Good luck

Daynee · 12/02/2010 18:56

Thank you Hooper - That does help me out. I also saw other sites where women report the same thing, and that it's quite normal. I just can't help but feel deathly afraid because of my history!

And, congratulations! You must be thrilled! When does the baby start to kick?

Daynee, it's not surprising at all that the loss of sickness makes you feel so scared! I don't have your history and it still scared the life out of me (thank god for MN to calm me down!). Just try to think as positively as you can. How far along are you? Have you got a date for your scan yet?

I felt kicking really early for the first time - at about 15 weeks - and just like itwascertainlyasurprise, the baby hasn't stopped since!

Hi All

I have had 3 m/c and I am now 8wks pregnant. My sickness started at 6wks and for the 1st week I felt I was dying. It eased off at 7wks but got worst at the end of the 7wks. I had a scan early due to bleeding and saw the heartbeat for the 1st time. My sickness has been on & off since 6wks. It always seems worse at work, perhaps thats because I get up early so it make me tired and my sickness worse.

Jules80 I am also sick to death of feeling like this, it seems I can't do anything to control it. I feel sick from the minute I get up to the time I go to bed and even when I am sleeping at night it wakes me up because I feel so sick.

I get some good days and some really bad days.

herbgirl17 · 15/02/2010 17:38

Daynee, Jules80, my hubby says he is secretly pleased when I am sick - not that he's nasty, just that we've had 3 mc and he takes it as a good sign that I'm still being sick at 15+5, wish I could agree....

I've had the toothbrush thing too, but for me it's worse at night, just bring up all my dinner. I eventually asked the dentist about it and she said brush when I can or just floss and use a good mouthwash and get my teeth professionally cleaned once the sickness has stopped (!) She said it was quite common.

I also had Mayan Abdominal Massage from a herbalist and that really helped me not look like I was several months more pregnant with gas. I'd recommend it, she also showed me some techniques I can use myself which seem to be helping with the nausea. Hope we all get over this soon...

Jules80 · 16/02/2010 14:42

hi girls - thanks for the responses.

What is this abdominal massage thing- dont wanna crush ma baby!!! today at lunch i picked up some crystalised ginger - ginger biccies, lavender oil to help me relax at night as this is the time when im not relaxed too- - as feel sick and gassy! i hope it helps but im not being hopefull since im now 14 weeks and still feelig so rough!.
Chucked my breakfast up at work and - i actually felt better! but i see a pattern emerging now - - i scoff my breakfast - always running late work work as i cant get up as im so tired and then spend the morning heaving! then i start to get hungry and feel ill - by the time i make it to the toaster to grab a bite to eat its too late - being that hungry makes me sick. Im only being sick like once or twice a week but most days its just heaving - mainly the work days - -at weekends im fine!! how crazy is that. I dread my mornings and i have to brush my teeth and thats what makes me heave too!
Im so so so so tired of feeling like this and its so horrible that there is nothing you can do! I got sick bands, got some stuff from dr for the gas, got the ginger, etcetc - - its all day feeling shite! and everyone says- - its worth it in the end - im sure it is but at the moment - i feel so poo i cant see past the next day let alone the next 6 months 0 - some days I just sit and cry coz i feel so shite and dont know what to do!

does any one else fee like this?????

jennimoo · 16/02/2010 15:14

I've only been feeling sickly for a week (started at almost 6 weeks) and yesterday was worst: was in the office miles from loo and was so sure I was going to be sick, but wasn't quite.

Today I'm working at home, all relaxed, and nibbled all morning, and I still feel just fine!

I have to deliver a training session to 40 people tomorrow, with a super-early start, so I bet I'll be feeling rubbish tomorrow!

Jules - I haven't been sick, but have had a really upset tummy!

x

herbgirl17 · 16/02/2010 16:02

Jules, the massage is really gentle and designed to be used in pregnancy as well as for enhancing fertility, dealing with digestive upsets etc. Might be worth a google to see if there is someone near to you?
I've noticed a pattern as well, I need to sit for a while after eating or it will definitely come up again - no eating breakfast on the way to the bus. Also imperative that I eat little and often, any meal too big and that's a trigger as well.
and don't beat yourself up for feeling down, it's normal. I've had to keep reminding myself that my hormones are all over the place and that's enough to make anyone feel physically and emotionally drained...
hope this helps.

Jules80 · 17/02/2010 11:27

ooh wish I could work form home - but I am an assistant to 2 others and they need me here to do stuff¬ so theres no way i can prob work from home!

I think feeling sick is worst than feeling sick as once your sick is over with and you feel better after that!

herb girl17 - ill google the massage, see what it does. I suffer from the worse tummy bubbles at night! my tummy gurgles soo bad with gas it hurts. I hope it will help. Almost anything i eat- - - gives me tummy upset!

Jenni moo - -what have you taken for your upset tummy ? I asked the midwife what i could take appart from gaviscon -- she recomeded malox- she said it tastes better and a little bit thinner so its easy to go down. - she said that will help with gas and acid etc- I tried it yest then read the label - it says you should not have it in the first 3 months of pregnancy - im 3.5 but still worried - so check it with your GP.

Also avoid foods giivng you an upset tummy. I have found out- pasta, cabbage rice, lentils - almost anything is giving me upset tummy and now im scared of eating anything - eating hardly anything as it is! Avoid oily and fatty foods like chippy chips- - they made me very ill! Its a shame really as i feel like im depriving my baby of vital foods.

I dont know what else to sugest- I tried ENO which is a fruit acid - its a powder- and you add it to a bit of water and it fizzes - it does releive you a little.

I think I would cope better if i was just feeling sick but with upset tummy and everything - it makes it 10 times worse!

also midwife suggested making a smoothie with some fruit and add a dash of yoghurt.

I got the ready made innocent smoothies you can get!

I think its finding whats right for you but at the moment not much is working. Good luck to those feeling like this! and good luck with the training session! there are day when i cant talk to ple as i feel so sick! carry a bag with you and be ready to leg it!

Jules80 · 17/02/2010 11:30

Daynee - i have only had 1 miscarrige and im so paranoid at every feeling i get- so its normal for you to be on edge. I keep getting told feeling sick is good! Try to remain positive- ( i should take my own advice)

Itwascertainlyasuprise - - your now 36 weeks - and still sick - ???I am sooooo scared now as im only 14 weeks today and i have had enough alreay as i feel quite bad ith the sickness and upset tummy. How did you cope?????

@Lauramltmn32 This is exactly the same as me. 6wks to 8wks endless terrible nausea which rendered me useless and basically bed bound. Then suddenly barely feel sick the past two days and feel like I can actually leave the house. How did yours resolve? X

Legouix · 16/06/2020 10:27

@Lauramltmn32 also love the fact we've joined a chat that is 10 years old and all the mums above will have kids going in to senior school in a year or so 👆😜😂

@legouix How's your pregnancy going? I'm 8 weeks today and my sickness has been better today. Just a wee bit in the morning compared with the last two weeks I've had it pretty much mornings and evenings feeling nauseated and crap!

Legouix · 09/07/2020 19:23

@Lauramltmn32 I'm just over 11 weeks and definitely over the worst of it all. I now really inly feel nauseas if I'm really tired. I hope you get through it fast.

When are you due? X

EmmmmaP · 02/03/2021 20:33

Hey Lauren,
How did the rest of your pg go??
I was exactly the same, very sick from wk 6 to 8. Now being a few days into wk 8, I have felt pretty good, more energy and less nausea. It's nice, but scary haha

JasminnJadee · 22/03/2021 09:15

Hey Lauren,
I've been feeling terrible for the past 2 weeks every day all day continually, I am 8 weeks this week and this morning I am feeling fine which has worried me. Did your sickness come back?

Becky280592 · 23/12/2021 08:20

Hey everyone
Hope your all well! I just found out I'm pregnant I have a history of 3 miscarriages so I'm feeling pretty anxious!
I'm taking heparin injections but I'm also taking progesterone pessaries twice a day I'm having extreme bloating and some abdominal cramps and twinges! I was wondering if anyone else got these sort of feelings whilst taking the progesterone? Xx
