Pregnancy

bleeding and cramping - heartbeat there but also lots of blood

I am currently 7+3 - baby v much planned and looked forward to. On Thursday I had a couple of cramps and some (dark brown) bleeding which I took to the doctor but wasn't really too worried about. They booked me a scan for tomorrow to check all was OK but said to go to A&E if the pain came back.

This morning, the pain came back and also the blood - now dark red. Off to A&E, where I had a scan. There is a baby in there, with a heartbeat, but the sonographer said "there is a lot of blood" which really freaked me out as I keep imagining the poor little bean awash with blood. The doctor said about 2/3 of pregnancies go on to be fine, but 1/3 do miscarry.

Since getting home, the blood is now bright red, but no clots and no real pain - a kind of dull ache when I try hard to notice, but not realy.

So my question is, does anyone have any positive stories similar to this? I'm pretty much a wreck and I suppose am preparing myself for the worst, but I was just wondering if there is any hope at all.

Thanks for reading

Hi, thanks, they seemed to think it was better to "wait and see". I don't really know why, I suppose to maybe give the bleeding a chance to settle down - or to get worse and become a proper miscarriage.
It does feel really hard to wait a whole 4 days, I am thinking the outlook is quite grim really and probably it's a missed miscarriae kinda thing. Don't know if I'm fooling myself holding on to hope.

Just an update - bleeding now all but stopped, just a very faint beige smear when I wipe (sorry) and no pain. Pregnancy symptoms increasing daily, especially nausea, so I'm pretty much stumped as to what the flinging flanging flange is going on. Trying not to hope too much, at the same time can't help but think it's not over yet ...

stay positive. I had this with my dd2, and with this pregnancy I am in now! With dd2 they said that it was because it was likely she was one of twins and I lost one. With this pregnancy, I bled right up til 2 days before my 12 week scan, the last bleed I had was really scarey and i went to bed and woke up to a flood in the bed. It just totally stopped suddenly. I am 16+4 now. It's not always bad news. Thinking of you.

With DD she sort of implanted and then scraped down the side of my womb and then reimplanted as it were (only the start of her random, rare healh problems!. This led to loads of bleeding because she dislodged a lot of my womb lining and also meant that she was very small for dates. She's now fast sleep upstairs!

bloodyhardwork, dont worry too much about the HCG levels, I had mine tested after a bleed and they didnt double in the 48 hours so was told it doesnt look good. I then had a scan and all was ok, the doctor doing the scan said that the doubling only really matters in the early stages of pregnancy.
I wasnt sure how far along i was, turned out to 6-7 weeks not the 4 i thought.
The bleeding stopped and I had another scan last week and all was still ok, not getting too excited yet, waiting for my 12 week scan to tell people.
I had a mmc in June this year so am still worried that it could still go wrong.
make sure you take care of yourself and rest as much as you can.

Just an update - the scan today showed that the baby still has a heartbeat, still quite a bit of blood in the uterus (but less than before) and they were quite positive although obviously no guarantees or anything til the 12 week mark. According to the scan measurements I am 6weeks + 6 so ages to wait before we can relax, but the constantly increasing pregnancy symptoms (dreading brushing my teeth and have to keep dry bread near me at all times) feel like a really good sign.
Thanks to everyone for good wishes - the positive stories have really made a difference.

Hello everyone who was watching my thread about bleeding and cramping before Christmas. Thought I would send an update as I had my twelve-week scan today and all the blood in the uterus is gone - yippee! so relieved you can't imagine.

We had two more big bleeds in the last few weeks, including clots and thick period-like "slime" (TMI!) which really scared me, but the bean is OK and growing away with a little flickering heartbeat and waving its little arms and legs around. Still can't quite believe how I lived through the last two months, to be honest. Phew!

THanks so much to people who took the time to post/send good vibes, it was really helpful.

That's wonderful news - many congrats .

Hideous when you bleed during pg isn't it? So stressful. Hope you don't get anymore bleeding and enjoy your pg .

Hey,you had the news that I wish i'd had. My bleeding (started at 5 weeks) ended up as a tubal mc,in hospital,on Xmas day. Like you I'm lucky enough to already have one gorgeous boy.

I'm still heartbroken tbh, especially as at the moment I don't know if I have a good chance of conceiving again or not...

But it was really, really good to read that this can go right sometimes...I know the worry you have been going through and I am so glad that you have got to this point,it's truly amazing.

I hope the rest of your pg is much much easier. Take care x

ThisIsBloodyHardWork - So glad that everything is ok now. I had a subchorionic heamatoma as well and had two big bleeds at 10 and 13 weeks. I know how worrying it is and I am so happy to hear it has cleared up. It is awful - every time you go to the loo you have your heart in your mouth. I am now coming up for 31 weeks.

Ginhag - I am so sorry. I hope you can conceieve again and have a successful pregnancy soon.

Just bumping this old thread to thank everyone on it for very reassuring posts.

Im 14 weeks with # 1 and have been bleeding all week. Saw midwife on Tuesday who let me listen to the heartbeat and was very reassuring but with every day that has passed thsi week I've felt more and more anxious every time I see blood.

Plan to ring MW tomorrow to check if I should take action but in the meantime, MN has saved my sanity tonight!

Why does no one tell you that bleeding in pregnancy is quite common?

This thread just gave me the ray of light I was hoping to see.
I’m going through This right now and feeling pessimistic.
The only difference for me is that I haven’t had a heartbeat yet, but I think it’s too early. I have a scan next Thursday and am resting up until then.

Hi Kona84 I also was so happy to hear such positive stories that things can turn around.
I have had a very similar experience.
I am 7 weeks pregnant and this is my forth day of bleeding. My midwife sent me in for a TV scan and they found the heartbeat which I was so relieved about. However she was concerned that the baby was very small and said I may go on the miscarry. But it was just a case of waiting to see what happens.
I am still bleeding and have cramps throughout the day. No clots at the moment.
Just have to pray for the blessing to stop and that everything is okay.
Sending my best wishes to you for a healthy pregnancy too.
X

Hi everyone! This post has really brought me hope. I had light bleeding when I was 10+1 and had to sleep for a night in hospital just to be observed. A few days later (10+6) I had another bleeding episode and was back in hospital. I’m currently at 15w...Friday night I started feeling pain in my lower abdomen, pain was on and off on Saturday and today too. But a few hours ago I started bleeding (much heavier than the last two times) and made my way to hospital.

Ultrasound shows blood is coming from the uterus but the doctor says the cervix is still closed. (I guess it opened just a little bit to allow/let the blood out). Baby has a heart beat and all is well so far. They’re keeping me for the night because I’m still feeling a little pain and there’s still some blood. I’m quite frightened I must admit but crossing my fingers and hoping all goes well.

Not so good update: I’ve lost the Baby 😔😔 I guess I wasn’t so lucky. I hope I can try again soon. All the best to you all.

Low rising HCG but heartbeat seen at 6 weeks - any success stories?
I went to the hospital last week to check for an eptopic pregnancy which was ruled out when a 5 wk sac was found in the right place. My HCG was only 600. 4 days later it only went up to 900 and 3 days later only went up to 1000. I’ve had heavy bleeding for five days and was told I had miscarried 4 days ago. Today they scanned and found a heart beat and a 6wk old sac. I’m so confused! Does anyone have any success stories of when this doesn’t end in a miscarriage? Thanks xx

I'm going through the bleeding now and have been trying to find some positive news although I have prepared for the worst. It's my first pregnancy, I have the complication of endometriosis in ovaries which was said to increase miscarriage risk in 1st trimester. I had a first scan with empty sac then 3 days later which was yesterday it progressed with a yolk sac in it so I was praying hard..I first just spotting but last night I started bleeding like period with bright red (excuse my description) not much clots yet and no pain.. My Hcg is not doubling and (only increasing 30 in 48 hours). Doctors all said I will be miscarried...I have seen this post with a lot of possitive comments and stories...I m wishing I can be as lucky as one of you as well... Will revisit hospital for a check up on Tuesday... All the best for those who are also struggling like me.
