Bicornuate uterus, 5-6 weeks pregnant, mild cramps + spotting, is there any hope?

Have mild cramps and a small amount of pink blood when I wiped.

I think I am currently 5+4, I was referred to gynae by my GP on Wednesday as I had suffered abdominal pains, but more a muscular ache (like after sit ups say) than cramps. Gynae tested by HCG levels and they were apparently 6000 which they thought too high. I am fairly certain of my dates.

Am booked in for a scan anyway at 9.30 Monday so no point doing anything except wait it out over the weekend.

Is there any hope? I'm sure I read somewhere that spotting when combined with a bicornuate uterus rarely has a positive outcome. This is our second pregnancy, I miscarried at 9 weeks two years ago and we have been ttc ever since.

I would like to add that I also had lots of aches in my tummy I think from the weight of pregnancy being very uneven due to the mishape of the uterus. Also if anyone is worried ask your midwife and gyne for additional appointments and scans. I had lots of scans and a growth scan at 36 weeks. I also saw my midwife every week for the last 3 months of pregnancy and she would do the doppler to check bab's heart. It all helped to make me a little less stressed and relax a little. x

no advice on the bicornate uterus, but it could be implantation bleeding combined with some round ligament pain.

I've had bleeding in all three of my successful pregnancies around this time, but strangely enough, none at all in the two pregnancies that I miscarried.

Good Luck

Thanks for sharing your story skc I'm glad your DS was OK but sounds like a rough time.

I think my uterus is partially divided so not as severe as yours and it's also retroverted so that is interesting.

LatinDAISYcal I think you're right about ligament pain - it has stopped now. Also my bleeding tailed off to brown spotting and now has stopped - my GP also said some implantation bleeding could be the cause.

All I can do is wait two weeks to my next scan and hope for a heartbeat. We're managing to upbeat

fingers crossed for you

one of the women on my PN thread has a bicrnate uterus and a pretty amazing pregnancy story; maybe not too relevant to your situation but it might make you feel more positive about having a bicornate uterus. I'll point her in this direction if I see her around

I have a BU and had a scan today at 6 wks 2d, and was told all looked ok (as much as they can tell this early on) - but there was a heartbeat. Had a mc at 7 weeks a few months ago. After the scan, later this afternoon had some bleeding, so now worried having felt reassured this morning..No abdominal pain to speak of so still hoping might be ok...could the exam have triggered a small one off bleed? Any thoughts welcome...

I think sex can trigger a small bleed if you have a cervical erosion (I think the mumsnet pregnancy book told me this). So I guess the ultrasound is a bit similar. I had a bleed after my scan and asked gynae if it could have been caused by the scan and the doctor said no.

But you've seen a heartbeat so the chances of miscarrying now drop significantly. Try to relax and maybe call tomorrow to see what the EPU say? Lots of luck, I hope it's OK

Thanks - think I'll call tomorrow as you suggest just to see what they say. There was a heartbeat during the 1st pregnancy at 7 wks but the sizes didn't stack up with the dates I was giving them, so I went back the following week by which time the heartbeat had stopped. Have been feeling sick this time, so had taken some comfort from that (even though everyone's symptoms are different!) - ironically not feeling so rough today either which just adds to the anxiety/confusion! I am hoping it's because I had a big sleep, so am rested for once! Thanks, and good luck to you too...

Claire - sending you lots of lovely sticky thoughts and hope that this little loony will hang on in there. You certainly deserve a happy ending. x

Ac - hope all is well with your little bean, too.

Called EPU - she said there's only one way to find out and I should go back in for another scan - she said we could dissect my symptoms but given that many people bleed in early pregnancy it's impossible to say. So I have to go back really as it is on my mind constantly - Thurs is the earliest I can get there, and would mean no DH in attendance but not sure I want to wait til Sat...

Hi...I'm 10 weeks pregnant with a bicornuate uterus and I'm having cramps in my back and lower pelvic area. I've had 2 scans and my baby is in the left horn. This Morning I wiped and saw some brownish clear fluid. I'm so scared. The pain isn't every day...it's once per 2 weeks or three weeks. It's my first pregnancy. Any advice or experience with this.
