I can hear my baby's heartbeat in my ear when lying down!?

The night before last i was trying to get to sleep but could hear a superfast heartbeat Sound in my ear which was really annoying. I wear ear plugs and can often hear my own heart beat, but this was so much faster. I was a bit freaked out and checked my pulse which was fine. I took my ear plugs out and changed position and it went away and I didn't think too much more about it until last night when it happened again. I then realised it must be my baby's heart beat. I'm 11 weeks. Has anyone else had this?

Are you sure it's not your own pulse wooshing in your ears?

Sounds like its your own pulse.........I get them sometimes.

Last pregnancy I was driven mad by my own pulse in my ears whenever I lay down. I haven't had it this time. But it was definitely my own - a bit faster than usual. but then it is faster during pregnancy.

It definitely wasn't my own heart beat as I could hear that as well - and the beats were as fast as a mouse. It's so odd. I'm trying to think of what else it could be. I've got my scan next week - do you hear the heart beat then? I hope so as then I can hear if it's the same rate.

I don't think there is any possible way to hear your baby's heart beat in your own ears.

It just the blood rushing through your ears and around that area. I get it in bed and if I push my ears shut I can hear it then too.

I've tried to find something online about it, and it's true that I can't find anything. I'm convinced it was though as it was a steady heart beat sound going about 3 times faster than mine.

I havent had it whilst pregnant, but I have experienced the fast whooshing noise in my ears when lying down before, its annoying when trying to get to sleep!
Really dont think its possible that its the babies heartbeat.

Sorry but I don't believe there is any way you could hear your baby's heartbeat in your ears - well, unless your womb is on your head. Or your ears were in your stomach.

Seriously, even an experienced MW with a v sensitive doppler pointed at the right end of the body would be unlikely to find an audible heartbeat at 11 weeks.

Could it be that you are hearing your own pulse but also echoes of it going on in your head hence it seeming to be more beats than your own alone?

Yeah, it sounds like you. It's the blood rushing through all the teeny capillaries and stuff.

I've just been musing about this more, and I think you must be right. It's your pulse rather than heart beat you hear in your ears isn't it and I can't hear my stomach gurgling for instance in my ears at night - so it doesn't make sense that I can hear the baby's heart beat. Shame as now it's just an annoying noise again! I quite liked the idea of being able to check in him or her at night before going to sleep. Hope the noise goes away as fast as it arrived.

I swear I have the same thing happening to me and I was searching for similar cases. Yes! I too hear two different heartbeats. Mine. And a fast one. The first time this happened I immediately knew it was the baby's heartbeats. I usually hear my own heartbeats when I sleep putting one hand over my ear. I always sleep this way to help me block the noise. Hearing two after getting pregnant makes me sure it is the baby.

Pulsatile tinnitus. Very common.

I have had this a lot. In second trimester especially. sometimes I could hear my ears bounding off the pillow! Dr and midwife said its just all the extra blood basically, pulsing. It can indicate high blood pressure, but not always.

I have had the same experience. I know for a fact it was not my heartbeat. I heard it in my ear while I was falling asleep. I heard mine first then the baby’s. I have heard it a few times.

I’m shocked by the number of people who think they can hear their baby’s pulse in their ear.

Just ponder the biology of that for a split second. Your baby’s pulse doesn’t echo round your body. It doesn’t have little fronds that extend up into your ears. Unless you are incubating an alien succubus in your brain, there is no physical way you will be hearing its pulse in your ear because your baby is probably the size of a lemon (or smaller) and is situated ENTIRELY IN YOUR PELVIS.

I hear this too (it's very annoying, always in my left ear) but I agree with some PPs above: it's my own pulse, definitely not my baby's. Your pulse sometimes sounds like it's twice as frequent as it should be, because you're hearing the atria and then the ventricles contract (the upper and lower parts of your heart). So it sounds like DA-dum DA-dum. When you feel your pulse you just feel the DAs. When you can actually hear it you hear both so you count double.
I've had a lot of insomnia lately while plagued with this sound so I've had time to study it! For reference I'm 17w now.

Im pregnant as well and I hear my babies heart beats as well (twins). I thought I was nuts because it's clearly not my heartbeat, so I googled it and came across this thread. Im happy I'm not the only one who has had this experience the heartbeat is much faster than own and very loud in my ear. My husband is amused, whilst I'm sleepy...yet happy they are doing well in there

When I experienced this in pregnancy it turned out I was anemic and needed iron! Few days of increased iron and it was gone x

Hey! I know its been a while since you wrote this. But you definitely can hear your baby this way. This is actually how I found out I was pregnant with my 6th. And I do hear it every time. Apparently we are just that in tune with our bodies!!💖💖What a miracle!
