Irregular baby movents

I am 20 wks pregnant and for the last week I have been feeling the baby moving, not all the time, only when I am laying in bed or on the sofa . My question is, is it normal at this stage that the movements are not regular and should I worry if I don't feel anything for a day or two? This is my second pregnancy, but I can't remember at all when or how often i felt the baby moving in my previous one ( my DD is now 7). I had to have 2 terminations in the last 2 yrs due to severe abnormalities ( both babies would have died before delivery in both cases ) and, even if my 12 wks scan showed that this time everything seems to be ok, I am terribly paranoid and terrified something is going to go wrong, so I think I am just looking for some reassurance x

Normal normal normal normal.

Some women aren't even feeling the baby move at this stage and movements start as irregular and random.

Sounds ok to me - I'm 25 weeks and go for hours without any movement. She also only kicks me when I'm still on the sofa/bed - I'm sure my movements just send her to sleep the rest of the time. Also at that stage they are still so small they might be in a different part of the womb or in a different position.

Have you got a scan coming up?

It is perfectly normal for the movements to be irregular at this stage

Just remember that the baby is tiny at the moment, I am 24 weeks with twins and its only been the last 2 weeks that I have felt kicks when sat up, until then I only felt them when I was in bed.

Im so sorry to hear about your problems and really hope that this time you get a lovely healthy baby x x

I havn't got an madical advice. But Hopefully someone with some knowledge should be along soon.

I had a bit of a scare at 20 weeks having felt the baby move from about 15weeks and then I didnt in 2days. They tried to find the heartbeat and couldnt so they scanned me, and there she was, hiding away. She was fine but had moved so that I couldn't feel her movements and they couldnt pick up her heartbeat with doppler. Its always worrying because you dont know whats going on in there.

Hope everything is ok for you too.

I took so long to post that loads of great advice came along before me!

Thanks for all your responses, I do feel better now, I have my 20 wks scan booked on Tue ( which I am absolutely dreading!), and I just wanted some reassurance so I can spend the weekend without driving myself and my DH totally mad!

Why are you dreading the scan? That's a shame. I'm sure it'll be a lovely experience, and hopefully it'll set your mind at ease.

M78 · 08/05/2009 14:37

McSnail it's just that I am so happy that so far everything has gone ok that I am terrified they will tell me something is wrong again and I will need another termination, which I don't know how I will cope with... I know that everything so far indicates that this time the baby is ok, but I am just really scared, I am not very positive normally anyway.... as you said at least it will hopefully put my mind at rest x

I only got movements when lying down from about 16-21 weeks, and definitely not every day. I was glad for the scan at 20 weeks because it proved he was really in there!

Am 24 1/2 weeks now, and he pretty reliably kicks after meals and when I'm lying down at night. But that reliability didn't start until after 21/22 weeks.

He's not kicked after lunch today, but I just tell myself he didn't like what I was eating.
