Hi everybody i just wanted some advice please.

For about 3 weeks i've had a few pregnancy symptoms (on & off). I'm now 3 days overdue & have taken 2 tests (one boots own & the other Clearblue), both of which were negative.

I hoped that i was pregnant but now feel a bit of a wally for hoping. Should i just give up hoping that i am? What would everyone else do?

Hope everyone is ok by the way xx

Oh, bristolbird, I did not want to let your post go unanswered, you poor thing!
No, do not stop hoping, but you will need to retest, maybe in 3 days or so? Even better, leave it a week, then you'll know for sure one way or another.
'Tis deardful to wait like this, isn't it?
V best of luck to you . I hope you will get the result you want.

What kind of symptoms have you had bristol? 3 days overdue isn't that long - if you ovulated later in this cycle then you might not have sufficiently high levels of hcg yet to get a positive, and also unless you use when you first wee in the morning the levels of hcg subside (as you drink more) so early on the tests are less able to pick up. With this pregnancy I got a negative on the day I was due my period, then only a very very feint positive 4 days later which I ignored to start off with until the nausea and sore breasts got worse and I tested again. I would wait another couple of days (easier said than done, I know) then retest. I'm not sure it makes much difference which tests you use, I have always got the cheapest ones in boots and they have been fine. Good luck, let us know how you get on.

Thanks so much for replying both of you i feel like i'm going mad (although not very sane to start with).

I've had period like pains for 3 weeks, sore lady bumps on & off for about a week, headaches & slight dizziness & i still have lots of discharge which is unusual at this time (sorry to TMI). It's probably all in my head but i'll definately keep you posted.

Thanks again girlies xx

Until you get your period there is always hope.
I spent 18 months like you so I understand exactly what you are going through.

Give it a week then test again.

Good Luck.

brightonbleach · 08/05/2009 12:59

absolutely, i echo ronshar until you get your period there is always hope! We were tested and told (due to a disease/condition I have already) that we had less than 20% chance of concieving, that was in October 08 - we were pregnant naturally by Jan 09!! Plus, I was a few days overdue in Jan, preg.tests all showed neg BUT I was actually pregnant! I had a small period, did tests again a few weeks later & it was POS, & dating scan since shows i WAS actually preg already in Jan - so there you go, fingers crossed, leave it a few days to test again, even weeks sometimes for your HCG to get up high enough to register on the test .
keep us posted! Best of luck, and if not this time keep going...

Thats wonderful Brightonbeach. Just goes to show the power of a womans body.

brightonbleach · 08/05/2009 17:07

ronshar thanks! doesn't it just I don't feel much like superwoman this week though - is it true one feels different/better after the 16 weeks mark?? I could do with the extra energy... not that I'm moaning though I can tell you, we're still totally over the moon, also cos I'm 37 now and we were starting to think that it might not happen, but following treatment for my severe thyroid condition even a 20& chance sounded worth going for, so we got the fertlity daily testing sticks from Boots and wahey 3/4 months later there you go! yippeeeeee! now to the bits I hadn't thought of when 'trying', like, oh birth: that'll be a breeze, yeah? [denial emoticon]

alana39 · 08/05/2009 19:41

brightonbleach congratulations that's a great story. I hope you do start to feel better soon - it does take a while sometimes but I bet once you get a bump and feel the baby moving around you will feel even happier regardless of energy levels. And 37 isn't old at all (even if the locum GP I saw when I went to tell them I was pregnant this time said "39's not that old you know"! Quite, thanks.

ronshar · 08/05/2009 21:00

I have not long had my third. Yes it does get better. I would say 20 weeks. Birth is a small part of the experience. Do get yourself worked up about it. Having no sleep for 6 months. Now thats a thing to worry about

brightonbleach · 08/05/2009 21:02

alana39 hi! thanks yeah, can't wait to feel movement, wahay!

yeah - my GP said "I'm putting geriatric primate" - EXCUSE ME? I said "oh thats the medical term"..... how ridiculous! I've been repeating it to everyone to the same stunned looks! I've had loads of friends older than me have babies, so if thats a medical term they should change it quick-smart (or have to invent a medical term for doctor-punched-in-gut-by-pregnant-woman)

bristolbird10 · 10/05/2009 21:15

Hi me again, just an update i'll be a week late tomorrow. So do you think i should re test following my 2 previous negatives?? xx

kd73 · 10/05/2009 21:22

brightonbleach · 11/05/2009 09:36

bristolbird10 · 11/05/2009 12:45

Sorry i haven't been on sooner. I haven't tested yet been running around & getting my car MOT'd. Do you think i should wait until tomorrow morning? xx

OP posts:
TotallyAndUtterlyPaninied · 11/05/2009 13:05

I would test now

bristolbird10 · 11/05/2009 13:59

Ok well i've just taken another test & the result was a BFN. Think it's safe to say that i'm not pregnant so i'd better make an appaointment with my docc to see whats going on.

Thanks everyone for your replies xx

Been feeling really crappy since the negative test. Just had a good cry (an advert started it off) hope it knocks it out of me xx

TotallyAndUtterlyPaninied · 11/05/2009 21:00

Aw Bristol, TTC is just horrible isn't it. Keep your chin up love, and have as many cries as you want, it's all good. Hope you get a BFP in a few days. xx

bristolbird10 · 11/05/2009 22:12

Thanks Totally, it's nice to know that people on here understand & not think that i'm going crazy xx

brightonbleach · 12/05/2009 18:04

Aw, chin up matey, i know exactly what you mean, I was the same the months running up to pos test; keep us posted if you can, all the best...

Bump02 · 12/05/2009 18:56

Hi Bristolbird

I tested 4 times when I thought I was pg (roughly 6-8 weeks) ALL said negative

Did one 4 weeks later and it was positive, finally found out I was 11 weeks and 6 days when it was positive!

I am not trying to fill your heart and head with false hope here, I just think you should try and relax (easier said than done I know)

Good luck Thinking of you!

bristolbird10 · 23/05/2009 12:05

Hi everybody just thought i'd update you all because you've all been great. Well after still having no sign of my period i went to the docs. He thinks that my antibiotics may have stopped my period (sorry i realised i forgot to mention that i was taking tablets when i posted) or just that my body had decided not to have one this month. However he said i should do another urine test to be sure which of course came back negative. On Monday i had a few spots of blood when i wiped (TMI so sorry). Then on Tuesday a little more blood but nothing like my normal period. All this has now stopped so my body must be just being kind on me this month haha.

At least i know i'm not pregnant now & can relax & start trying all over again.

Just want to say thanks everyone you've all been lush xx
