Hi everyone - I am 16 weeks pregnant. I had an emergency spinal operation 3 weeks ago to remove a disc from my back which had slipped, snapped off and was crushing my spinal nerves. I was obviously not happy about having a general whilst pregnant, but was given no choice and would have lost all bladder and bowel function if they had not operated within 48 hours. Due to circumstances It is not considered safe for me to have a natural birth - all of my children have been born by c-section under spinal. I am being referred to an anaesthetist to see whether i will need a general or spinal for my baby's birth. My discectomy was lumbar 5 region - does anyone have any experience of this and how did it effect your options? Has anyone had a successfully epidural or spinal after a similar operation?
