Anyone else leak fluid during pregnancy? TMI warning.

I'm 24 weeks pregnant, got shoved on the bus 3 weeks ago and the following day had a small gush of clear non-smelling fluid. Called midwife who told me to put on a pad and call again if I got anymore.

On Saturday got another gush so put on a pad but no more that day. Sunday morning had a strange gungy lump in my pants and then another gush about lunch time.

Went to triage and babys heartbeat fine. Got an internal exam and plug still intact, no sign of liker leaking.

Doctor said sometimes people can have small leaks and to call if it happens again so they can check there's still enough fluid around the baby.

Has anyone else had anything like this?

hey hun, I've been leaking daily since week 30, got monitored at the antenatal assessment unit had an internal to check all was as it should be (and to show my student nurse husband my cervix apparently!) and everything has gone normally since (I'm 38 weeks now)
I have to have a pad on daily and one explanation given to me was it could be baby sat on my bladder and then releasing bladder after a pee.....so I'm basically peeing myself! It is always clear fluid and I questioned the pee thing but I have had my regular midwife appointments and all has been normal. I hope this eases a bit of your worry.

I shall try to keep this very brief.

I had this experience when around 23 - 24 weeks pregnant. I was already under special observations with my OB/GYN consultant due to problems in my previous pregnancy.

The leaking was an indication of an early labour for me. I had an appointment with my Consultant and did'nt really want to "bother him" but I let him know what was happening. He rechecked the amount of fluid around my daughter. It was "low". I was admitted for "observations".

I gave birth to my daughter at 24 weeks.

She is now an absolutley gorgeous 2st pre-schooler. At this very moment bugging me to watch the Disney channel on Sky.

I am not offering any medical advice at all, just advising you to insist on extra observations with your doctors/midwives.

Thanks jstock, that sounds like me. It's always clear but my cervix is all okay. I don't think it's pee and neither did the doctor but he said as long as it was small amounts it should be fine. I'm wearing a pad all the time now just in case, I hate the blooming things

I know what you mean!! I just saw the midwife who again reassured me that its quite normal to leak fluid as there's more pressure going on down there and we produce more.....ahem....lady lotion while pregnant. ah the elegance of being pregnant :0)

I had another leak today and called the midwife who totally brushed me off. They obviously don't think it's anything to worry about but I'd like to know if I'm leaking wee or not. The doctor seemed quite sure I should be seen if I leaked again but the midwives don't seem to care about the leaking at all. Just hope the baby is okay and would like some stronger reassurance.

I'd call the midwife back and tell her how concerned you are. Better to put your mind at rest than sit at home and worry it wont do you or baby any good. At least if you go in they can give you some sort of explanation as to what is happening. good luck hun x

My waters have gone early with both of my pregnancies and both babies have been prem.

If you waters are leaking you need to be on antibiotics as your at risk of infection.

When mine went both time i rang the labour ward and told hen i was going in, don't be fobbed off it really is important

OTOH, it could just be wee

agree that these freqeunt leaks should be checked. it might not be a full ruptrue, but if your waters are leaking m then it needs some attention
and if not, you need to do more pelvic floor excercises!

I called my community midwife who told me just to turn up at the hospital and then they had to see me although I could be sitting waiting for hours.

I'm going for a 3D private scan next week (had one with my dd so wanted this baby to have the same record of time in the womb. I called them and asked if they could move the scan forward, they said I could go in tonight for a reassurance scan. They said since I'm getting the full scan next week they won't charge me for this one, I almost burst into tears I'm so bloody grateful.

This way if the liquer levels are low I can go back to the hospital and get seen straight away. If not then it's probably wee and I need to invest in some incontinence pants and do some more pelvic floor exercises.

I started leaking fluid at about 20 weeks but just thought it was wee (first child). Then I went for a routine scan a week later. When they started scanning they said that they needed the baby to be in a different position so sent me for a walk! I came back and baby was still in the same position. As I was leaving, I questioned why the baby might not have moved position and the radiographer took another look at the images and mentioned low fluid! So I had to be re-scanned and they measured the fluid pockets.

I eventually had DS at 32 weeks but throughout the intervening 12 weeks every time I went into hospital after a water gush they treated me with scepticism. To this day I am not sure why they did not test the fluid to confirm that it was indeed fluid and not wee. DS is now 8, fit and healthy.

My advice is to ask lots of questions and be happy in your own mind that everything is ok.

I just thought I'd come back and update as I had a quick scan last night.

There is plenty of fluid around my baby which is great and I feel so much better. We still don't know what the fluid I'm leaking is but at least I know it's not having a bad effect on my baby. I'm going to make an appointment with my community midwife to have a chat about it.

My solographer was the nicest lady ever and I can't wait for my full scan next week.

Confuzzeled So glad to hear that everything is ok and congratulations on the boy-bump!
Just a thought, (although I agree with everyone who said that your GP/midwife really should test to see what the fluid is) there are tests available that you can do yourself, you can get special pantyliners that change colour if it's amniotic fluid rather than urine you're leaking. Try Homehealth and search for AmnioSense Tests.

That should at least give you peace of mind.
(I'm not in any way connected to the company but was bulk ordering OPKs and HPTs a few months back. )

Confuzzled, Did the midwife explain what it is? just curious to know if they offered a different explanation to the one they gave me.

Hiya ladies, I've never posted on the page before but I have a question I am 30 weeks pregnant and over the past 2-3 weeks I have been leaking for no reason at tall. It is like a yellowish colour and I am starting to get a little worried as it is happening for no reason. I phoned the triage at St Mary's last week and they advised me that because this is my first then he will be getting engaged and he is pushing down on my bladder and they told me to wear panty liners. I am still very worried that something is wrong and I was wondering if this has happened to any off the mummies on here. If you can let me know it would be much appreciated ☺️
