Iv just had a scan at 21 weeks asked to come for one early instead of 23 weeks because at the first scan they couldnt find any nasel bone, a sign of downs. Just had the 21 weeks scan but still no nasel bone all the other soft markers fine no other signs or problems. The sonographer said because of this i have to go back in 2 weeks for another. The chances have gone from 54in 1 chance of downs to 30 in 1 today, although i have already decided to have the baby what ever.but still worried.

I have no experience but just wanted to send you hugs. Also that still means 29 out of 30 won't have downs-that sounds much better. I hope it is just a scanning problem x x x

thanks sammy me too, just have to wait for another 2weeks i suppose to see, it just seems a long time to wait and worry.

It is not good having to wait with stress and worry. I have to wait 3wks to see the cosultant-it is just too long so i'm with you on that one x x x

My heart is with you, logan!! I'm almost 9 weeks and will be 40 this year, so I am already stressing about the tests...your baby is a sweet blessing, no matter what, I'm so proud for you!

I've not had the downs test as I know I couldn't face the decision of what to do next. My instinct would be to keep no matter what. Can you find out all you can about Downs? I know there are lots of very happy people who have Downs Syndrome. Since you'll keep no matter what it might be good to get into a frame of mind where you're happy with the next scan no matter what?
What Sammysam says is true too, so you may be worrying for nothing - hope so.
Personally if my baby has Downs (I'm 18 weeks) I'll be looking on the bright side of all the affection and love I'll get - I think people with Downs are more affectionate so I'm focussing on that.

Hi Loganberry,
There is a thread you might want to check out on the new ante natal tests and choices talk area - it's 'thread to talk about choosing to continue a pregnancy with a disabled child'. (I'm sorry I couldn't work out how to add this as a link!) There are lots of very friendly Mums who will give you support.
Best wishes for you and your baby. Lins xx

loganberry? I dont suppose your child will be of mixed race at all? just a question

I went for my scan at 20 weeks and they found my dd to have 'echogenic bowel' a sign of many problems but downs being the bigger one of them.
I was told to wait 3 hrs to see a consultant.
When I had my scan again, she said there was no nasal bone, and also looked like a cleft palate. She also was small for dates. She asked me if I wanted to do an amnio - i said no, the she asked if i am considering terminating..I said No.

i was not happy with the way she dealt with it throwing these concerns at a new young mum. So I used my weeks earnings to pay for a private scan at MUMS. The consultant was lovely. He did the scan and told me that baby did have echogenic bowel but no where as severe as what the other consultant said.
He aslo worked at my local hospitals and he arrange for me to be under his care at the hospital of my choice, so that I wouldnt have to see the other woman again. And I didnt have to pay anything either.

As time went on (by 27 weeks) the echogenic bowel was hardly to be seen. I had a growth scan and she was a tad small but he said nothing to worry about and he didnt need to see me again.

Well dd came out above average weight with NOTHING wrong with her other than a milk intolerance which I can deal with. I suffered for weeks thinking the worst, but I s'spoke' to my baby and she kinda told me everything was alright with her!
