I am currently looking for an obstetrician at the C&W and have an appointment with Makrina (Mina) Savvidou, consultant obstetrician next week. Has anyone had her as their obstetrician? What was she like?
It is my first baby and so all this is new to me

Hi Welshlady - how did your appointment go? I don't know Mina Savvidou but do know a few of the other private consultants (Mark Johnson, Martin Lupton, Nick Wales & Keith Duncan all good according to friends!).

Hope you have a good experience!

Thank you. My consultations with Mina Savvidou so far have been great. She is very friendly, thorough and matter of fact which is what I like. I think she has just started to take private patients on at the Kensington Wing. She has worked as an obstetrician on the NHS ward at C&W and has started to take private patients.

When I tried to make an appointment when I was only 7 weeks pregnant with the other more well known obstetricians on the Kensington Wing they were all fully booked which is why I ended up as Mina's patient.

So far so good. She has been very caring and friendly. I will keep you all posted.

Hi welshlady, I have arranged for an appointment with Dr Savvidou. How is it going so far? Do you know anyone who has delievered with her before?

welshlady · 21/05/2009 15:21

All well so far. I have monthly check ups and she is very matter of fact and friendly.
I dont know of anyone else who has delivered with her I'm afraid. I was hoping to hear from others on mumsnet who may have been under her care.
Good luck, hope your appointment goes well.

Hi, congratulations. Very interested to see you have decided for the Kensington wing, which I am also considering. What made you go for it? When did you visit ?

MyGoodness · 26/05/2009 11:58

Hi SuiGeneris,
How many weeks are you? Have you made appointments to see any consultants yet? I'm 7 weeks and have done nothing yet but starting to worry I should have...

MissingHome · 27/05/2009 11:18

Hi MyGoodness, the sooner you book your appointments the larger is your choice of consultants... but it is never too late, as I am 20 weeks and got to see 3 consultants last week. The hospital looks amazing. Good luck.

welshlady · 28/05/2009 18:55

Apparently some people book as soon as they fall pregnant! It was all new to me and came as a bit of a shock that people book their consultants so early on. So far I'm pleased with Mina Savvidou. She is very experienced, I think she has worked at the Chelsea and Westminster for a long time and has just started to take private patients on at the Kensington Wing. Chose the kensington wing because it provides private facilites but is attached to the NHS in case of any emergency at birth or should the baby need extra care.

Thank you both, and good luck with everything. Since posting I've booked in to see a couple of the consultants and am feeling a little bit more in control of the situation! The Kensington wing does look great.

Hello,

Any obstetricians' recommandations at the C&W ? I am 7 weeks pregnant and not sure who to go for.
I know Keith Duncan who delivered my second baby but would like to change consultant maybe.
Many thanks

dal21 · 13/08/2009 17:54

Gubby Ayida has been highly recommended to me. If I had chosen c&w would definitely have seen her.

bel21 · 18/08/2009 11:54

Hi Delph71. I'm about to see Keith Duncan. Would you mind me asking why you're thinking of changing consultant? Thanks!

bucookie · 13/10/2009 23:47

welshlady + missing home would really appreciate any further info from you on how your consultations are going?

Mina Savvidou was my consultant and I just adored her. She is so thorough and takes her time at each appointment to ensure all is well and to answer any questions. She went above and beyond - called me and texted me to follow up after I had a bad infection after my labor. Even after I was discharged from her care and I had already paid I called her with questions and she always called back. I had several appointments with another doctor when Mina was away and I MUCH preferred Mina over the other doctor; that colleague is very sought after and I was so happy that I had Mina over this other doctor. I recommend her to the fullest.

Nick Wales is great and he's the one the mw's recommend. I was mw led till ds turned breach and I asked them and can only agree. Have to say though that he talked draught to the point and without fluff but I like this better than being overly fussed over.

Thaleia · 07/08/2013 16:37

Breech and straight not draught ... B* auto text!

Has anyone here had Charlotte Deans as their obstetrician at c&w? I can't seem to find too many reviews of her.

I know other consultants like Mark johnson, Roshini and Keith are the more popular, but I would assume they are also very difficult to catch hold of/just too busy.

I am looking for someone who is extremely supportive and easy to get in touch with. I will most probably be having an ELCS.

Thanks
