24 weeks, UTI symptoms for 2nd time but nothing on microscopy, whats going on?

Hi, I'm 24 weeks with dc2 and was at docs last week with what I thought was second UTI of this pregnancy. I felt rotten had back and flank pain, low grade fever and they found white blood cells and + 1 protein. Shipped me home with antibiotics and sent off a sample. Anyway the midwife rings today to say that nothing came up on microscopy so its probably not an infection and we need to follow the pre eclampsia protocol and check protein again this week (I had PE in last preg so not a surprise).

the thing is I felt so ill? has anyone else had classic UTI symtoms but no bugs found?

My BP is creeping up from baseline but still within acceptable limits

Yes i suffered repeated UTI'S in my first pregnancy,very distressing yet it never showed up in the test & i never understood why.Even after antibiotics the I still felt irritated when needing/going for a wee.The doctor said it was possibly an irritable urethra.
Don't know whether it is related but they also tested me for Groub b strep because of this & I was positive.(But I didn't find this out til after the birth as result didn't get passed on to me)

thanks mumface someone mentioned group b strep to me last time and I keep meaning to ask about being tested. I kind of felt this morning like the rather officious midwife was suggesting there was nowt wrong cop on woman but I was ill I swear. feeling like being hit over the head with a hammer along with the pain
