Caesarian surface scar has healed but is red & lumpy underneath

I had an emergency caesarian 12 days ago and the scar to the surface skin has healed really well.

However in the last few days, one side of the scar has developed a lump under the skin and though the incision is sealed and dry, the skin over this lump is now reddish and hot. The lump itself feels roughly as wide as a finger and is about 4cm long.

Could it be a hernia??

I dont think it'll be a hernia - am trying to remember if I had that. I know mine is lumpy (13 months later) but I can't remember if it got hot at any time. Might be worth speaking to your MW (if she's still visiting) or HV

Mine was like that soon after dd was born (can't remember exactly when as it was years ago). I rang the GP surgery and they asked me to go in but told me everything was fine and now my scar's virtually invisible.

Call your GP or MW tomorrow and see what they suggest.

I had the same thing develop after my c-section (4.5 months ago). Did have it checked by the doctor but was told not to worry and a few weeks later it had gone and now the scar is just a thin, flat line.

I would see your doctor to put your mind at rest.
