Advice wanted - risk of mc after heartbeat seen at 7 weeks?

I had a mmc in september 08 and am now pregnant again, am 7+3 today.

Was lucky enough to have a reassurance scan at the EPAU today where i was treated for the mc, and amazingly, saw the bean with a heartbeat!

I now have to wait for my next scan which is at 12 weeks on 17th march. Now for the next 5 weeks, I know I'm going to stress myself out wondering whether the bean will survive until then.

Does anyone any experience of having a mc between 7-12 weeks or do you think I will be ok? I have heard that seeing the heartbeat is a very good sign...

Congrats on your news! I also had a reassurance scan at 7wks, following a mmc at 12wks, 3mths previously. I had the same question as you and my m/w told me that if a heartbeat is seen early on, then something like 70% of babies will make it. Sadly for me, I had another mmc, baby made it to 11wks, discovered at the 12wk scan.

Fingers crossed for you - I'm sure others will be along with more positive stories.

Hmm, I've been told that if you see a baby with a heartbeat at 7 weeks, the chances are 95% of the babies will make it. Good luck!

It is supposed to be a really good sign if you see a hb. I did have a mc after seeing one, but wish you every luck

I saw a heartbeat at an early scan at 7wks and went on to have a healthy DS. I think it is also about 90% chance that it will be ok after seeing a heartbeat at 7 weeks. Good luck.

Thank you all for responding so honestly, i appreciate it.

I hope I'm in that 90-95%.... wish me luck!

hi there I have had 2 mc on at 6 weeks and one at 9 weeks- I was told by the specialist that % is v high after seen heartbeat. I could not wait til 12 week scan so had a 9 week one after this mt specialist said he didn't need to see me again and to send a phot when the baby was born- I took this as v positive. If you are really worried your local hospital may do early private scans- mine would for £50 well worth it for piece of mind. Good luck and I'm sure all will be finex

I had scan at 7 weeks, and he was born fine! I was scanned because I had a mc the previous month, and so caught again straight away!
I had terrible pregnancy though - bled a lot all the way, and lost buckets of blood at 17 weeks too, but he was born just a month early, and perfect. Good luck xx

The odds are with you that you'll have a healthy baby!

I had a mmc in March after seeing a hb at 6+3. This time around I waited until 8 weeks for my reassurance scan - saw a heartbeat and the doctor told me the risk of mc at that point was only 2%. All was okay at my 12 week scan and now 16+5 and so far so good, I hope!

Good luck to you.

if the baby is measuring right for dates and you see a heartbeat, the odds are very good indeed.

I had a (second) miscarriage after seeing a hb at 8 weeks, but baby was measuring two weeks behind. sadly the hb had stopped two weeks later.

in my third pregnancy, i had an early scan at 6w1d and saw a hb and he is now 6.5 months.

Very very low risk now. I had DS, then missed mc at 12 weeks, now 33 weeks pg with DC2.

MMC is so upsetting and of course it's hard not to worry, but the risk is very low and many of us have been in the same boat and been fine with the next pregnancy.. Of course you will worry but soon enough you will have the 12 week scan and it will be fine!

thaliablogs · 11/02/2009 12:37

Sabs, it depends on your age. If you are under 35, chance of a miscarriage now is less than 5%. If you are over 40, it's still around 20%. Goes down with successive weeks, so if you had another scan at 9 weeks and saw a heartbeat, risk would be lower. Also depends on the speed of the heartbeat- don't suppose they told you that? If it was over 120 bpm at 7w3d then miscarriage rate is lower.

Hope things go well for you.
