I'm now 17wk and it seems to be getting worse.

Could it be PGP?

Has anyone else had this?

PGP is normally a sharp pain in groin area

Phoenix · 08/02/2009 17:11

Slightest movements hurt. Not too bad when walking but after a while i start to feel it.

I'm really crap at describing pain but every now and then i'm feeling a slight pain down the left side of my groin area.

Phoenix I think that this may be the beginnings of spd. I certainly had this first before any pain in the front of my pelvis. Be really careful with yourself - keep your knees together at all times - in bed, getting out of the car, when changing direction when walking, etc. My spd was definitely linked to a loose sacro-iliac joint on my LHS which is still loose 2.2 years later! Have you had a clicky hip yet?

oopsagain · 08/02/2009 17:19

or poss sciatica-
i'd check with midwofe or drs...

Biglips · 08/02/2009 17:24

phoenix - it is just in the buttock? as if yes, i had it as youre right it is PGP. its bloody painful. i had physiotheraphy in the end after 4 weeks of being in agony! as i walk everywhere as no car at the time

Phoenix · 08/02/2009 17:26

I thought sciatica until i googled it and it said there is no link to sciatica and pregnancy and most cases are pgp.

I'm gonna have to go to docs aren't i? I thought about SPD too. My friend had it in 2pgs and she still isn't right either.

This is my 2nd pg but i didn't have this in my first.

Sounds like PGP to me... this is exactly how mine started.. pain in left buttock like someone just punched me there, then followed by strange cold sort of pain down left thigh... the rest follwed later.

As someone already said... take care with lifting, cars, driving, etc etc.. I would get a physio referall asap, if you can get your gp to take it seriously at this stage... at 12 weeks mine wouldn't beleive me that I had it ( I knew from previous pg exactly what it was )

elibumbum · 08/02/2009 18:45

I had dreadful buttock pain in my last pregnancy. I had physio which helped a bit but not as much as the chiropractic treatment I had in the last few months.

My chiropractor said that my buttock muscles were over working to compensate for the relaxed ligaments.

I'll go to the docs sometime this week then see what they say. I'll make sure i don't see the one i saw the other day. I went about something else and just mentioned the pain and he said 'oh aches and pains like that are common in pg because all your bones soften.' I said could it be sciatica and he said 'yes could be.' Helpful doctor he is

Another yes for PGP here - I had a physio appointment last week for this, and she checked for buttock pain. Tis part of the deal with PGP/SPD.

worriedamy · 08/02/2009 20:32

I have this too, but wasnt sure what it was... I have like a numb pain on the left side of my bum and down the back of my thigh- I put it down to my awful posture when sitting in work, but it has been a lot worse for the last 6-8 weeks or so. When I am sitting now, I have to place all my weight on my left side. I am going to mention it to the midwife when I next see her...

mummy2joshuarileyandbump · 08/02/2009 21:07

Me too!! I have been suffering with the pain in my right butt cheek for the past couple of days and thought it may have been sciatica but after reading the article on PGP I am thinking i may have this....trip to the docs me thinks.

HumphreyCobbler · 08/02/2009 21:15

My midwife gave me exercises that helped. Sorry I can't really remember them apart from walking backwards if it got really bad (that helped although it sounds mad) and doing your pelvic floor exercises. I would ring your midwife. They will refer you to a physio if needs be.

lifesaboxochoccies · 08/02/2009 22:55

I had similar pain (pain on walking in my left buttock cheek) when pregnant for about a week but it went. 6 weeks after DD arrived it started again and I could barely walk. Staggered to the chiropractor and she told me it was my SI joint. Might be worth going to see a chiro although I'm not sure what treatment they give in pregnancy. It took me about 6 sessions for it to get better.

jasperc163 · 10/02/2009 08:14

me too, had it in both pregnancies (left side only) and i understood it is sciatica.
