tbh, these scans are not exact science....had one with ms at 38 weeks and was told he was around 5IBs ( I was scanned because of GD and they wanted to know how big the Baby is).....well ds was born about 3 days later weighing in at 7Ibs 14oz...so ....so, really don't take it to serious....

FairLadyRantALot · 30/01/2009 20:25

OH, and with ys, they were on and on about how big he must be (massively huge bump) , but I didn't let them scan me, as I felt it was pointless...well, he was 8Ibs 7oz...so, not really much bigger at all...

FairLadyRantALot · 30/01/2009 20:26

actually he was 8Ibs 7 1/2 oz...must not lie

I had a 10lb 6 - he was born in 2 hours and 27 minutes (the 27 minutes was the time from arriving at hospital to him being born!) A couple of stitches, not pain relief (no time!) and no problems at all. Big babies don't mean difficult births!

I was told ds2 would be average size 8Ib at the most (despite ds1 being 10Ib) he was 11Ib in the end. He was a much easier birth than ds1, done and dusted in 4 hours, pushed for only a few minutes.

WhatsTheBloodyPoint · 30/01/2009 20:34

DS was like this, top line for head circ and "off the scale" for abdominal circ.

He was born at 37 weeks weighing 9lb 13oz.

But as others have said was easy enough birth, 4 hours start from end, no intervention required. (2nd baby)

He was a great feeder and sleeper. I thought the two went together - big sized tummy = bigger volumes drunk = went longer between feeds.

WhatsTheBloodyPoint · 30/01/2009 20:35

39 weeks, 39 weeks, sorry.

That would be very big for 37 weeks!

lollipopz · 30/01/2009 20:47

thanks everyone for reassuring me i had heard the scans are notorious for being inaccurate but still panicked!ds was 8lb 4 and an easy labour so hopefully will be fine! i was given this due date by scan at 15 weeks and i was convinced i was 12 days ahead of that based on my lmp so maybe that is the case after all. l

very possible lolli...I think after about 9 weeks pg the embrypos start growing at a more individual rate than before that, so....duedates also are not an exact science if determined by scans

MummyElk · 30/01/2009 21:29

Hi Lollipopz
Sorry to add my own but I was scanned at 39 weeks and told my baby would be 10lbs or more so I was induced (instead of home birth) and....some time later... she arrived at an 8lbs 9oz.... There was LOADS of fluid in there, I wish I'd taken some sailing boats to be honest....
I know everyone is different and you will have your own story - but the scans don't necessarily tell everything...
And - what a nice weight to have a baby - no worries on feeding or trying to keep that weight on!!! Brilliant stuff.
Good luck with it - bring on baby number 4! x

Hi, I've been having growth scans every 2 weeks sin ce 16 weeks and due to have my 32 week one tomorrow. At the 30 week scan, bubs was measuring at 4lb 1 oz and on the 93rd centile; the fornight before, it was the 99th centile. At my last scan, it was done initially be registrar and student but when the consultant saw the results, he wanted to re-do it as the size was coming up as 35 weeks. It just shows how much is due to whoever is doing the scan and what machine they are using. I take them with a pinch of salt. I know baby is not going to be tiny but not necessarily as huge as the scans might imply. Cx
