Over the bump, esp for late pregnancy.
The under the bump ones are very uncomfortable in late pregnancy and completely unsupportive.
I liked the little bit of support that the over the bump ones gave.
Gues it depends on whether you have a 'designer' bump or a more 'enormous' bump (like I had!)

littleboyblue · 14/01/2009 18:32

I prefer over the bump as always found under dug in in the wrong places, that's if they didn't fall down first

MrsMattie · 14/01/2009 18:32

Under the bump until near to the very end. They're less frumpy.

I always find over-the-bump just don't fit properly, especially wiith jeans. Jeans need a zip and button! The over-bump ones feel like those old people's trousers you see advertised for £11.95 at the back of Sunday papers

There comes a point near the end of pregnancy, though, when over the bump yoga pants become your best friend!

I had a great pair of black stretchy trousers from Next which could go under (rolled down) when you were smaller, then pulled up to go over as you got bigger (and boy, did I get big!) They were the comfiest single item I have ever owned- I hardly had them off for my whole pregnancy! and they actually looked quite nice as well (as far as maternity clothes can ever look nice on me!)

CuppaTeaJanice · 14/01/2009 18:40

Under the bump, definitely. New Look do some nice ones for about a tenner.

Also get some belly bands (a bit like a lycra boob tube that goes over your bump) to cover any undone flies and gaps where your top rides up. Ebay sell them.

babyignoramus · 14/01/2009 18:54

I've needed over the bump since really early on - but I'm very short in the body and nothing else would stay up! My over-bump black work trousers are lovely and comfy.

katie789 · 14/01/2009 19:03

Over the bump for everything except jeans - which I prefer under the bump. Although at 37 weeks my jeans keep falling down - they've done well to stay up until now though!
I also had the black Next trousers that go over the bump, and have lived in them.

(Also, I found my belly button tended to protrude through tops when I wore under the bump trousers)

mrsbaldwin · 15/01/2009 07:33

Overbump for me too - although I agree that you look like Humpty Dumpty (I wear a longish top to disguise the Humpty element)

Seraphine's OTB black trousers are very good I've found.

Another vote for over the bump

Myneaux · 15/01/2009 10:18

Im 20 weeks and still have a relatively small bump and went through the same dilemma.

In the end I bought a pair of black work trousers and a pair of jeans...both under the bump...from new look. I got both for about £30 so I reckon even if I need to get different ones in a few months I wont have wasted too much money.

The over the bump ones seemed to not fit me at all...lots of spare material...best to just try one as many pairs as possible and see what fits best (tbh - getting trousers teh right length can be hard enough !)

dinkystinky · 15/01/2009 11:12

Over bump for the very end (last 4 weeks of so generally)- otherwise under bump with a belly band gets my vote every time.

EmmaPP · 15/01/2009 11:49

DEFINATELY go for over the bump. I have 2 very expensive pair of maternity under bump trousers, and from 16 weeks onwards couldnt wear them as everytime i squat down (to get something out of washing machien for instance), they dig in really bad and hurt.

LoveActually · 15/01/2009 11:53

Over the bump, they will last you all pregnancy! x

Notreallycutoutforthis · 15/01/2009 11:56

Over the bump vote here - also better if (gods forbid) you need a CS, as they won't dig into scar like an underbump will - and you may need them for more than a week after the birth...

MrsArchieTheInventor · 15/01/2009 12:00

Over bump trousers, mainly because I don't have the figure for under bump ones and my bump is covered in stretch marks. I did have some trousers that sat nicely on the bump but as I've grown they're now under bump ones.

Marthasmama · 15/01/2009 12:03

I'm still in my maternity jeans and my LO is 14 weeks today . Over the bump, nice and cosy in this weather.

Bubbaluv · 15/01/2009 12:04

I'm an under the bumper. I HATE over styles. Had a v expensive pair of Seven Jeans with the band that goes over the bump - they went in the charity bin!
I just go for under the bump and long tops.

Lionstar · 15/01/2009 12:04

Over the bump - otherwise you can get nasty draughts (I hate being cold around the middle)

HensMum · 15/01/2009 12:07

Under! Most of mine were except for a pair of jeans which I think were designed to go around the bump which in reality just meant they fell down the whole time.

georgimama · 15/01/2009 12:12

Overbump - I found underbump ones gave me builder's bum. Very embarrassing.
I had some lovely stretchy fabric ones from Jojo Maman et Bebe, they were about 45 quid which is probably a lot for maternity, but I wore them constantly from aobut 18 weeks until the very end, in fact I was wearing them until the point in labour when I decided to dispense with clothing!
