Just read another thread about waxing. I've actually avoided a bikini wax because although it feels nicer, I'd feel more exposed in the delivery room without my muff. However I noticed in the thread that you get shaved anyway. I thought they didn't do that anymore?

not any more!
mybe in like the seventies
there is a slim chance that they whip a bit off if you need an episiostomy or emergency section .[ didn't with me]
fret not

Absolutely no reason to get shaved unless you have a Csection.

mazzystartled · 05/01/2009 17:17

can always say no even if it is antiquated hospital 'policy'

pinkdolly · 05/01/2009 17:18

what mazzy said, i've had 3 girls and never been shaved

lilimama · 05/01/2009 17:18

didn't shave me and I had an em C Sec. Don't think they do it anymore, certainly not for natural straightforward deliveries. INfact I've never heard of it happenning at all

Thanks Mazzy. I have a feeling that by the time I do go into labour/baby is about to be born I probably won't care but I do want to keep a bit of dignity. x

I had an emergency section and they did shave me... although by that point (26 hours into labour) I was only vaguely aware that someone was down there with a bic razor and I couldn't have cared less what they were doing TBH. I only really noticed a few days after when it started to itch.

beanieb · 06/01/2009 13:25

which part of the body do they cut for a C section? I'm surprised anyone would have any hair that high up! there must be some unfortunately hairy women around!

muppetgirl · 06/01/2009 13:29

I was haved with ds 2 as I went into theatre to have forceps and the next step was an ec. They used an electric shaver and at that point I really didn;t care! What you worry about now won't seem half so important during labour....good luck!

bunsen · 06/01/2009 13:41

When I had a c section, they shaved me and cut me where the hair starts to grow, just above the pubic bone. So as to cover the scar when the hair grows back, but hmm, the hair is not too thick at that point! Ha ha you didn't really want to know did you? I'd leave it to them anyway, as if you are anything like me, you won't be able to see where you are going with that bic anyway! Could be dangerous!

anon786 · 06/01/2009 22:26

Beanieb - I am not a very hairy person... really I'm not... but as Bunsen said, the cut is pretty low down, below the line of bikini knickers and just right on the start of the hair line...

also... I love the idea of muppetgirl being "halved" in prep for a emergency section... it's what it felt like !!!

My first birth was an emcs and they didn't shave me, second was a planned and they did with an electric shaver.
They'd told me the week before I went in for my section to get dh to help me shave where my previous scar was, which he did. When I was lying on the table the nurse whipped up my gown and asked "Did Dh shave you?" I replied he did and she came back with "Well, he didn't do a very good job..."

fishie · 06/01/2009 22:38

for me they shaved about a cm off the top and the scar is about a cm above that. need to see wood for trees and all that...

ChirpyGirl · 06/01/2009 22:38

I was shaved under the hairline, tbh I wish they had cut me higher as the itching of healing scar along with hair growing back was horrific!

ciara07 · 07/01/2009 20:58

Hi i had an em c section, and they shaved me too, it didn't bother me at the time but as it was a dry shave it wasn't nice growing back in. i am having a planed section this time and it will be the last thing i will be getting DH to do before we leave for the hosp!
