Did you have a dating scan?

I've just discovered I am pregnant again! However I have absolutely no idea when I conceived - I have a 9.5mo dd and stopped bf about two months ago...since then I haven't had a period so consequently I've no idea when it happened! Has anyone had a successful dating scan out there? I'm going to see my doctor tomorrow and will request one but I just wonder how accurate they can be. With dd I knew the exact date she was conceived - I feel about 5/6weeks pg at mo but have literally no idea!

I had one for similar reasons - had no idea when I'd conceived. We normally don't get them here (Bath) but since it was the only way to date me they didn't have any choice. Seemed pretty accurate - when I had the scan they dated me as 13+5, DS was then born 10 days 'early'.

The dating scans are pretty accurate, I went for my scan last week and according to the date of my period I was 11+5 but my cycles are short and I knew when I ovulated so I calculated the date as 12+2. I didn't tell them this but they also dated me at 12+2 so yes the dating scan is very accurate, I was amazed that they could work it out to the exact same day!

The earlier they scan the more accurate - for about the first 12 weeks, they tend to grow at a very similar rate. There's a fair bit of variation after that. I had mine at 15+3 (according to the scan) whereas my dates put me at about 15+6. Considering it was a later scan than is usual, that's still fairly close.
