Extremely painful kicks/movements

I'm 31 wks. Over the last few days, I've noticed a big change in how baby's kicks & movements feel. It can be so very very painful that it makes me jump and scream in agony. The pain only lasts for a split-second or so, and generally comes at exactly the same time as I feel a movement. It is not this painful with every movement, the bad ones just come sometimes and hit me suddenly. It feels as though baby is hitting on a nerve or something and maybe this is what is causing the pain. Last night there were about 10 of these in the space of about half an hour, which is the worst it's been. Has anyone else experienced this? Is it normal?

is it your first pregnancy?

McDreamyingofawhiteXmas · 22/12/2008 21:41

I am also 31 weeks and have been having painful scratching sensations. I can only describe it as having a smear but from the inside - owwwwwwww!

dinny · 22/12/2008 21:43

down in your cervix you mean?

I've felt some hand/foot prodding down there (29,5 weeks)

McDreamyingofawhiteXmas · 22/12/2008 21:44

Yes right down there!!

Pinkmarshmallow · 22/12/2008 21:44

Yes it is my first pregnancy... well, I should say first successful one... had an ectopic last year, and I have pain around the surgery wounds from that, but this is a different kind of pain.

Yes I feel hand/foot prodding down there, but these sudden sharp pains are more in my side.

All my babies were quite painful when they kicked - I felt they were bruising me on the inside. BTW are you quite small, as when I talked to my smaller friends about it, they also complained about the kicking hurting.

My little one is doing this as we speak! Im 33weeks & they are getting stronger & stronger. Im also at the point where they make me scream & squirm.
I feel very self concious when im on the tube, as I jump everytime she kicks me...The person sat next to me must think I have a problem

Deep down I love her moving about though - keeps my mind a rest.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one then! Was beginning to think something was seriously wrong!
Countingto10, yes, I'm fairly small and bump also "neat" as my MW puts it, so maybe that's the reason.
KT1983, must be embarrassing for you on the tube... I too am worried that it'll happen at work or in church or somewhere public. Also, deep down, I love the movements, in fact, if I were to choose the best thing about being pg, it would be feeling kicks..... until a big painful one comes!!

PinkMarshmallow that is exactly how I would describe the pains I got from about 32weeks on, in that soft bit between my hip and fanjo. It woudl make my legs numb for a spilt second, and , if I was standing up, my legs would buckle. I kept saying "I am being kicked really hard just here" and MW, DH etc all said "It must be a punch", which I accepted, but thought it seemed too hard for a punch. Turns out DS was an undiagnosed, back to back, footling breech, so I was right all along.
