Ovarian cysts during pregnancy?

I had a scan earlier this week and when the doctor was checking out my ovaries, he said Oh, do you have PCOS? I said not that I know of - he showed me several little dark spots on the scan and said that they were cysts, but not to worry, sometimes they happen in early pregnancy.

I know I've read about them somewhere, but can't find any information now. Anyone else have this?

Hiya

In my first pg I had a huge ovarian cyst which had to be removed at 17 weeks, which was really scary!

I was told at that time that cysts do develop in early pg (the hormones from them hold the pregnancy in place or something??) and usually they shrink but mine had filled up with fluid.

Had two pregnancies since and that never happened again.

I do have PCOS however and it's never been a problem while pg with them, so I wouldn't worry

I don't have PCOS but they found a cyst early on during a scan at the EPU. It measured slightly smaller at the 12 week scan (3.2cm to 2.9 or something) then it wasn't mentioned at all at 20 weeks so I can only assume it's gone. No-one seemed to think it was anything to worry about, unless it grew as metoo was unlucky enough to have happen!

I was told it was unconnected with pg but was just an egg that hadn't properly launched (so it possibly stopped me from having twins)

I had a 5cm cyst during my first pregnancy and I had a scan 10 weeks after the birth and it had gone away by itself. My doctor wasn't bothered about it, I just wanted to make sure it had gone and the hospital agreed to letting me have a scan. If you're worried, ask your Dr whether he/she is.

Thanks for all of your responses. I don't think they were very big, but there were several. Again the doctor didn't think it was a problem, he said it occurs sometimes in pregnancy. I'll ask at my 12 week scan if they've gotten any bigger or smaller. Thanks everyone!
