Are you dehydrated.

thisisyesterday · 08/12/2008 22:28

yep, tis hormonal I think
although, make sure you're eating properly and drinking plenty.

ilovemydog · 08/12/2008 22:35

I had massive headaches for both pregnancies.

Only thing that helped was chocolate and a ton of water...

auntyspan · 09/12/2008 11:05

I used lavender gel from boots - from their aromatherapy bit, although only after 12 weeks. Just rubbed a bit on my pressure points and it worked wonders.

unmadebed · 09/12/2008 11:33

In my first pregannacy my Midwife advised a brisk walk, sth to do with poor circulation causing the headaches- always worked for me. 10 mins around the block and it was gone.

wideratthehips · 09/12/2008 11:46

my headaches are definately related to dehydration....i regularly have to gulp down a large glass of squash to catch up

sparklyxmasfairy · 09/12/2008 11:47

I had that blinding migraines in early pregnancy in fact the only reason I was sick once I found that only rest nice quiet walks and plenty of water would help

cyLENTeeNIGHT · 09/12/2008 11:49

God, I had these too My sympathies. Lots of rest and a cool flannel applied to the forehead may help

IllegallyBrunette · 09/12/2008 11:54

I had awful headaches during my first pregnancy.

My mum suggested a vinegar rag and tbh I thought she'd gone nuts, but it really worked.

Basically, soak a piece of cloth in vinegar, squeeze it out but not too much as you still want it wet and then go lie down with it across your forhead.

It stinks, but it also worked a treat with me.

Thanks for all the replies. I am 21 weeks today.

Will try all those tips!

Just out of interest, those of you who had headaches, what sex baby did you have? Just wondering if there is a link?

I had a girl last time and had headaches then. Don't know the sex of this one yet. Will find out on thursday

I have headaches too (am 13.5weeks) and hating it! Paracetamol does nothing.

Apparently 4head (it's a stick you rub on your forehead) is quite good.

dinny · 11/12/2008 20:32

I had really bad headaches with my first pg (dd) and now this 3rd one, mainly at the start

wonder if this is a girl

dinny · 11/12/2008 20:33

progesterone causes the headaches iirc

balismum · 11/12/2008 20:39

there are also cool patches you can stick on your forehead that you can get from the chemist - really soothing if it's a 'hot' headache like my pg ones were

... and it was a girl!!

NellyTheElephant · 11/12/2008 20:55

I have had terrible headaches in all my pregnancies (2 girls and this one is a boy), it's really common and basically hormonal. I have always found that the headaches start for me around the time the morning sickness stops... great!! Although by 20 weeks I tend to be fine. This time I had a headache that literally lasted non stop for 3 weeks and I simply couldn't function. If it is REALLY bad do see your doctor as they can prescribe things. Ibuprofen is fine to take between weeks 8 and 32 (although you'd probably want to speak to your doctor about dosages), also Co-codamol (paracetamol and codine) works very well. A friend of mine was prescribed valium(!), but then she had truly devastating migranes.

bozetteallthemincepies · 12/12/2008 22:15

big sympathy from another sufferer. currently 9 weeks, and just had migraine lasting over a week. inlast pregnancy was different, got them rather in 2nd trimester, then stopped by 3rd.

i like 4head too, it feels pleasantly tingly and has quite a nice smell. stings if you get it in your eyes though!! simple ice packs also good, esp if placed on back of neck.
codeine containing drugs can also help, but if you take them too much conversely can cause headaches.

rascal1979 · 13/12/2008 09:06

Is it just a headache or any other syptoms (such as nausea, flashing lights swelling etc)? Don't want to worry you but headaches can be a sign of pre-eclampsia - which can occur after 20 weeks of pregnancy and can come of very rapidly.

There is lots of useful info here www.apec.org.uk/ on the signs and symptoms.

Sure you are fine but didn't not want to post just in case
