Does this sound like I am fully engaging? What does that mean in a second pregnancy?

On Tuesday I saw the MW who said I was 3/5 engaged (I am 37 weeks pg with DC2).

Today I have been having very sharp pains (hear me yelp!) just behind my pubic bone and an ache in my lower back. I had a couple at lunchtime and then loads whilst I was cooking dinner.

I didn't feel anything with the 3/5 engagement bit, though with DS1 it had kept me up all night. He never fully engaged until I was in active labour so this is new to me....does it sound like I am fully engaged?

My bump feels very empty until quite low down. The baby's hicoughs are felt just behind my pubic bone. I am uncomfortable with this sharp pains if I stand up but it is just back ache when sitting down.

And if I am fully engaged does that mean this baby will come out a bit earlier than my DS, who was nearly 3 weeks late in the end?

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Im the same

37(+1) and midwife said the same.

Apparantly it means nothing ... everyone will say they were like this for weeks!

But we can still hope right?

I just remember that baby can bob in and out in second pregnancy, but if you are having back ache and pains, could you be in labour?

Oh god yes

That was to enchanted BTW (am still wearing your jeans...am astonished they fit, even if I do have to keep the buttons undone!)

nigglewiggle - it had crossed my mind but I think it is just wishful thinking.

Me too - 3-4/5s engaged at last weeks appt (now nearly 38 weeks), although I think it bobs up and down as some times I get that sharp low down fanjo jab that really makes me gasp - and DH look nervous.

Would love it to be a little earlier as am soooo fed up of being pg now (and extremely narky)

I actually HATE posting things on here because I will be having bad braxton hicks all night, be told Im engaged and feel like my ladty bits are swollen to high heaven but someone will say ...

i was like that for 5 weeks and nothing ever happened, i had pains all night, everynight but had to be induced 17 days late, then i was in labour for 4 days and had a forceps delivery and...and...my fanny fell off

or similar

TheProvincialLady · 05/12/2008 19:56

Good description of the fanjo jab and gasp My DH is looking distinctly nervous too.
