Help, I had bfp at 4weeks, then started bleeding heavily for 1 week at 5 weeks, and assumed had early miscarriage BUT...

Today, 2 weeks after start of heavy bleeding, have just done a repeat pregnancy test to check had returned to negative and it came up pretty strongly positive.
I don't feel pregnant at all, but last few nights had a bit of heartburn which is a bit unusual.
I know I need a scan but any other tales, my goodness I really bled heavily, dark blood, lots of it and tissue {shock], I just can't believe there is anything left to make a bfp

Thanks Darrell. The TTC rollercoaster is so stressful and even more so when your hopes are built up and then dashed. The devil-may-care attitude is a good one (for a while anyway). I was in that frame of mind when I got the bfp - think I would've gone a bit mad othewise. And yes you should treat yourself, get some new shoes too

Hope you can stay chilled out over the weekend.

Darrell, good luck on Monday. I am 6 weeks pregnant and have been spotting. It started Monday (the morning after I did the positive pregnancy test) stopped Tuesday lunchtime and has started again this afternoon. My Dr was not keen to send me to the EPU for a scan even though when I miscarried in July I had bled for the entire 7 weeks. Going to see him on Monday to sort out bookings in etc so may turn on the tears to get a scan.
Fingers crossed we all get on ok. I hate not being able to enjoy being pregnant after wanting it so much

WhineyTinker · 21/11/2008 19:04

I bled very early on for about a week. the result of that pregnancy has got her 4 year old brother in a head lock and it trying to snog him

Good luck for you- I have everything crossed for Monday.

Quick update before heading out for my scan.
Having extensively trawled the web for levels of decreasing hcg following miscarriage, I have concluded that it seems impossible to work out when a urinary preg test returns to negative but it does seem to depend on what level you reached ie what gestation you were at, and it does decrease on a reverse exponential
So options are

  1. Empty uterus but awaiting last few dregs of hcg to leave my body 2)Retained products-hope not as don't want ERPC as woud hate to be admitted
  2. Ectopic -really really hope not, but as haven't really had bleeding and only a few twinges of pain, hopefully a low clinical liklihood 4)An intrauterine pregnancy, feel this to be highly unlikely and will fall off couch if happens

So suspect 1 or 2, really hope not 3 and i won't even think about 4.
Let you all know later

Gemzooks · 24/11/2008 13:55

darrell, fingers crossed for you. I had a very heavy, grim, totally certain nothing could be left in there bleed at 5 weeks with DS, and everything was fine. Still no idea why, just came to the conclusion it was a clear out of some kind.

let us know how your scan goes!

Fiveplusbump · 24/11/2008 13:58

Hi Darrell I hope that everything went ok today. I ended up at my local EPU this morning and they were fantastic. It turns out I am only 4 weeks pregnant and she scanned me and thought she could see a sac so I have to go back again next Tuesday for a follow up scan. They are checking to make sure I am not having an ectopic pregnancy so they did some blood tests. If I hear nothing this afternoon I cross my fingers and hope for the best next week.

DarrellRivers · 24/11/2008 15:22

Well, very empty uterus with normal endometrium, and normal ovaries and tubes so I suppose a good result in some ways, tiny bit sad there wasn't a little bean in there with a heartbeat but not suprised
Still they are checking my blood levels to be 100% so feel less fraudulant
DH came with me and is feeling positive about trying in a few months again, so who knows what might happen.
Feel a lot less pressure
Thankyou all again, darn TTCing

sorry to hear that, hope you are ok. Could it have been a biochemical pregnancy? I had one with bleeding at 7 weeks that still showed positive for a couple of weeks gradually getting fainter. Not sure of exact definition but is a very early mc when things never really got started I think (made me feel a bit better, in some ways).

Jools1 · 24/11/2008 15:39

Sorry to hear that Darrell - glad it wasn't one of the other 4 options you'd come up with though.

All we want for Christmas is a BFP

DarrellRivers · 24/11/2008 15:40

Yes, early mc=biochemical pregnancy
Was actually more concerned re bhcg not returned to

DarrellRivers · 24/11/2008 15:42

Jools1, i read on the 35+ thread that your mc was at 11/40.
I really feel for you
I wish I could make things better for us with a wave of my magic wand

OP posts:
Jools1 · 24/11/2008 15:55

All magic wands and sticky baby dust appreciated Thanks Darrell

It was horrible and scary and I've never ever seen so much blood in my life before No idea how old beanie was when he / she died but EPU nurse thinks pretty close to 11 weeks based on what I told her about clot size / pain / contractions etc. The worst bit is never having had a scan, so I never got to see my baby

Last week was a hormonal meltdown but today seems to be strangely OK. Hopefully I am over the worst and we can both get TTC'ing before Christmas

MsG · 24/11/2008 16:19

Darrell, really sorry to hear what you've been through. Hope to see both you and Jools announcing pregnancies really soon. xx

LilRedWG · 24/11/2008 16:40

So sorry to hear of your loss Darrell. Take care of yourself and your DH. x

MoominMoma · 24/11/2008 16:58

So sorry to hear that Darrell. Thinking of you.

mummy2t · 24/11/2008 17:09

i started with a mc and the hospital kept doing pregnancy tests the result went from strong positive to negative in just 2 days. with my first son i bled very heavy on and off for 12 weeks, still dont know why.

good luck xxxxxxxxx

SpangleMaker · 24/11/2008 19:25

So sorry to hear that Darrell You have had more than your fair share of bad ttc luck in the last few months. Take care of yourself.
I really hope you and Jools have some success soon. Best wishes to both of you x

DarrellRivers · 24/11/2008 19:51

Well spangles, you keep on flying the flag for the 35+ thread and thanks again to all you other lovely ladies
MN has kept me sane during these wilder moments of the madness of TTC when no-one else knows what is going on

Oh so sorry to hear, Darrell. I had been following this thread and hoped for the best.
My HCG didn't return to normal after ERPC for months, but in my case it was retained products... Well, at least you know where you are and can start TTC again!
