pregnant boobs - how big will I go?

What is normal growth in pregnancy? I'm halfway and have already gone up one back size and 4 cup sizes - but I wasn't small to begin with! I haven't really got a bump, just look normal (I was a 6-8) but with huge boobs. I'm buying new clothes for my boobs not my bump!
Did anyone else have this, and if so did you slow down from this point? The book I have says two cup sizes over the whole pregnancy is normal - surely not?

I don't think there is a normal! I went up a lot in my first pg, not so much this time (but was bfing until 20-odd weeks). You may find that you don;t change a great deal post-pg (if you're planning to bf), apart from going down a back size or so. Just make sure you're measured regularly so you're comfortable. Also, if you're buying new bras in the last trimester consider getting nursing bras (again, if you're planning to bf) as they might come in handy post-pg.

Tinkerisdead · 20/11/2008 10:54

agree, no such thing as normal. I was a 32e im now a 40e!Im overdue and i know when my milk comes in they will explode, ive done as effie suggests and got nursing bras already. Most of the gain was at the start of my pregnancy to be honest but had a growth spurt in last few weeks.

babyc · 20/11/2008 11:00

thanks! I just feel like a freak at the moment, and am scared it will get worse when I brestfeed. As you can tell its my first and I just don't understand my body anymore!

Well I've been very disappointed, only went up one size (to a C)the whole way through, even after the birth.
This time, I have gone up to a C again, not expecting to get much bigger although my back has grown as I was a 34 but now nearer a 38!
Just wish my cup size would increase. It's something I really looked forward to actually. I just assumed I'd have great big breasts while pregnant but it's just not true

dan39 · 20/11/2008 15:13

Me too Fruity - I have not changed at all! Only change is I have had to gie up on the underwire bra's that made me look bigger! Am 29 weeks, hoping for pre-birth boobies from Santa.

herbaceous · 20/11/2008 15:57

Frankly, mine are getting a bit ridiculous. They were 34D, and at 9 weeks are already too big for my bras. I rather like them, though none of my clothes fit.

broodymom · 20/11/2008 16:36

Yeah no normal some go huge (like mine and stay!) and some dont change much
Before i got pg with my first dd i was a 34C and now on my third pg im a 38F !!! FFS!! I hate dp loves!

xJulesx · 20/11/2008 20:29

I was 36E before pregnancy, I went for a fitting at M&S just recently and was given some maternity bras in 38E but have not worn them as they are horrid (i feel like i am not wearing a bra at all)

I am 22 weeks and have stuck to underwired bras, the lady in M&S said i must not wear underwired bras... but i prefer them, i find them more comfortable.

Am i doing the right thing, this is my first pregnancy, where can i get some nice bras from, any suggestions.

EyeballsintheSky · 20/11/2008 20:32

I was 38G before, 38G during and 38G now I was hoping for a miracle reduction but it didn't happen. I'm not bfing though so maybe that might have helped.

ilovemydog · 20/11/2008 20:36

Am really sorry to report that I got bigger at 3 months when one is supposed to decrease.

shootfromthehip · 20/11/2008 20:46

I did put on a ridiculous amount of weight in my first pregnancy but I went from a 38D to a 44G!!!!! Baby number 2, 40EE. I had truly HUGE knockers, especially when my milk came in- apparently I could have feed twins. It was hard from a feeding point of view though as I had to feed with both hands as I may have smothered them with my enormous 'chist'

titmouse · 20/11/2008 20:58

xjulesx did the marks and sparks lady tell you why you shouldn't wear underwires when pregnant? I didn't know that.

LetMeEatCake · 20/11/2008 21:07

you can go enormous...

as soon as your bras get small/tight, get one fitted at mothercare/ m&s

you shouldnt wear underwired as can damage milk ducts

you should make sure always wearing shoulder straps correctly for max support

I went from 32dd >> 34E >> 34F now am around an E after 4 months breast feeding.

LetMeEatCake · 20/11/2008 21:08

yeah..say goodbye to any blouses/shirts in your wardrobe...

wellbalanced · 20/11/2008 21:11

I feel compared to you girls!!!!
I went up 2 cup sizes in 1st 6wk then another cup at about 16wk and have just bought some back extenders so not too tight.

I too was told not to wear underwired, something to do with your milk ducts.

I do sympathise with you thou as i struggled buying a nice looking bra and found without paying throu the roof most shops stop at DD/E cup-which is just daft, for that point alone i hope not to go much bigger as in E now although sure i will as only at half way point 20wk!!

xJulesx · 20/11/2008 21:34

The lady at M&S told me that the under wire of the bra damages the breast tissue which affects breast feeding

Until i find a decent maternity bra i shall carry on wearing my comfy underwired bra.

Any suggestions on where to get half decent bras from, The M&S i went to was a large store and the maternity section was so small, i was disappointed!!!!!

alleve · 20/11/2008 21:42

They balloon out, then after breast feeding look like to empty socks, then if you are patient return to their former glory. Mine did.

babyc · 21/11/2008 11:20

well I guess there is no such thing as normal growth! For those of you who are after comfy under wired bras, especially if you want one for christmas parties/lowish tops I got a wonderbra in a 32G - it was the only bra I could find with a small back/big cup combo. I was advised to but it slightly big - 32 rather than 30 so it sits a bit further back and doesn't affect the milk ducts. Even so was told not to wear it for too long due to wires, so I'm in ugly ones most of th time

I've just discovered the maternity T-shirt bras at www.jojomamanbebe.co.uk. The pics on the website don't really do them justice - I think they give a better shape than the rather matronly bras at M&S!

Hi I went from a 38E to a 36K - and when my milk came in they were too small in the cup now at 12 weeks they have settled down to a 36K again.

mummy2t · 24/11/2008 21:22

with both my pregnancies my boobs didnt change at all!!!

i am small anyway so was quite excited at the prospect of bigger boobies for 9 months, but nothing happened!! everything else got bigger but them!

BabyBaby123 · 24/11/2008 21:50

i've gone up at least 3 cup sizes so far and one back size and i'm 18 weeks - making the most of them as mine disappear completely after breastfeeding!

lulu1414 · 25/11/2008 13:55

I also went up a huge amount and feel like a freak. Not helped by male friends gawping at them...

I was a 30DD went up very quickly and was 30GG by the time I was 6 months. It settled down then until I went up to a 32J (I started freaking at this point as I knew I couldn't get any bigger). But some of this was due to swelling and I actually went down a bit once my baby was born and I am now a 32GG and breastfeeding.

I wore underwire right up until 8 months. I HATE nursing bras, though as they make me look awful- monoboob and saggy...

TooMuchTV · 25/11/2008 14:14

I have gone from a 36C pre dcs to 34J at the moment - currently feeding 2 mth old dc2 (only went up to 36G first time round). I only stopped bf a month before getting pregnant again - had gone down to 36E by the time I stopped feeding (just 1 feed per day for the last few weeks) and down to 36D before I got pregnant and they started ballooning again.
