Dh is working away mon-fri every week in germany and have been worrying every week about going into labour mid week because he wont be here. Last week mon - thur i was getting periody cramps very low down and got worse each day (i had the same with run up to ds1 birth) then friday they stopped and had nothing all w/e then today they have started again. What i wondered was wether you can make this happen unintentionally? I mean i tense up mon am coz i want to hold on all week then wondering if because im more relaxed come fri they have stopped?

To my knowledge there is a 'fight or flight' instinct that can stop labour if you are in a very dangerous or threatening situation- basically the body just puts it all on hold until you're safe again (think this is throwback to when we were trying to give birth amongst sabre tooth tigers and such!).

I have not heard of increased relaxation stopping labour- if this happened before your first baby, I would tend to think that what you're experiencing is either very early pre-labour or periods of braxton hicks.
