Recent visit to MW indicate my uterus fundus is 3 weeks ahead of where it should be. A growth scan was performed that indicatd excess fluid (23.9 cm - above 95% percentile). Baby meassurements indicate normal head circunference but very large abdominal circunference (97% percentile).
I gather it could be due to diabetes or something more serious with the baby.
Anyone knows anything about this that could help me out???

Thanks!

Hi Aviatrix,
In case it is any help, my latest scan showed that fluids were back to normal and baby was head down.... One can see this result as evidence that the first meassure of excess was caused by the transverse lie.... However, I ask the scan tech many many questions, and she didn't believe this was the cause...
Alos, I discovered I do have gestational diabetes. Even though there was never any trace of sugar in my urine! I am sure this would not be the case for you but it really wouldn't hurt to get tested!

Good luck!

I've just found this thread and am interested as I had a lot of fluid with ds (born by c-section) but this was not picked up until delivery and then spent almost 3 weeks in hospital before birth of dd due to Polyhydramnious and the risk of cord prolapse. Dd was not engaged either and was born by elective c-section.

I was so big by this stage I could not feel many movements although she was wriggling loads every time they monitored me and no-one could establish which way she was lying so had to have lots of scans.

Not that i'm planning to have any more, but was wondering what the chances of me developing this again would be?

My dd is 8 mths and I had excess fluid with her not picked up until delivery either. The midwife said that in 15yrs she had not seen so much fluid come from one person! During pregnancy, even my GP kept joking that it must be twins as my bump was huge even though baby was only(!) 8lbs 10oz. Am annoyed that it wasn't picked up earlier although I only would have worried so maybe it was for best. Would love to know what the chances are of it happening again. Also, did anyone else end up with loads of stretchmarks because of it? I was careful not to put on any weight anywhere else during pregnancy but have hundreds of marks on my tummy because of the hugeness of my bump - so unfair!!
